Buhk Exhaust Elbow
Having bought the bits (£31) and put it together I'm now wondering whether water might back flush into the manifold. Anyone else done this?

It would depend exactly on the angle of the pipe. Gravity and exhaust flow should stop a back flush, but in a rolling sea this might not be enough.
Just a thought. Could you add a short extension piece to the bend? This would certainly help stop back flush.

Having got the old one off there's nothing special going on inside. No baffles or anything. So I reckon the injection point is about in the same place.

Re: Buhk Exhaust Elbow
So after all that the threads are subtly different so can't attach the 1.5" pipe to the bracket on the engine....mission aborted

Re: Buhk Exhaust Elbow
Could you get a new bracket made? Or a fitting given the correct thread? Both will cost only a small amount in an engineering shop, certainly less than a Buhk part.

I could do Roger but I'm going back in on the 3rd of April so time running out. Decided on the safe but expensive route!

Neil on PBO said:
"Yes - I have a home made exhaust elbow on my DV20. Constructed more or less as you show, except I have a 45 deg bend for the cooling water inlet. This gives a better angle for the pipework from the anti-syphon valve. I am on my second in 13 years - although the first was still OK when I replaced it. Never any trouble with water flooding the cylinders. The malleable iron bends have a tapered thread, I believe, whereas the exhaust flange fitting on the motor has straight threads. I just tightened them up as hard as I could with a smear of Boss-white."

Re: Buhk Exhaust Elbow
Amazingly, when I took my engine to bits prior to getting it out, the exhaust elbow looked pristine. No idea why - it was painted the same as the rest of the engine, so was presumably 40 years old!
Experience: That which would have been most useful five minutes before you acquired it.

Someone else on PBO has recommended Nero SS http://www.nero.co.uk/Catalogue/150LB-B ... d-Fittings
where you can get the parts to make up one of these:
