Centaur Gibb filler cap

Post by Yacht She » Fri Mar 02, 2018 1:00 pm

Hi, I am after a replacement gibb water filler cap (internal diameter 4cm) for a Centaur but I am having no luck sourcing one. Wondered if anyone know of a source or someone who could manufacture another?

Hi,

Just a suggestion, if you get really stuck you could try a universal car filler cap?
Safety factor of 3 please.

These Gibb filler caps seem to go missing on a regular basis, so I wonder if it would be possible to get a replacement made by 3D printing. They do not need to be made of alloy for either a water or diesel filler,so a plastic would suffice just as long as they made a watertight seal. Then they could be made available to anyone who needs one in the future.

Many thanks to both. The 3D printing idea would seem to be the way ahead.

Hillary (of Moonshine) can do 3-D printing. If you ask him nicely :)
Experience: That which would have been most useful five minutes before you acquired it.

I could print plastic ones. The thread would be the tricky bit but I can CAD CAM a thread as long as I know the pitch etc. I could probably work that out if someone could count the number of threads in a given distance from an original one. Actually having a cap to work from is the best option.

If its the Water Filler Cap then I have one on Moonshine. I have no water tank because the previous owner removed it and I intend to replace the water system this year but I suspect the cap will be stuck fast. If I can get it off I will see if I can copy it.

Actually I have a casting machine. I have never cast aluminium in it but I could I guess if there is a strong demand for these caps.

Hi all,

Many thanks, a fellow member has come to the rescue and I have since sourced a replacement. If anyone else is stuck, another member reliably informs me that a Coleman's mustard cap just about fits!

Cheers,

Nick

Out of interest where did you find the replacement? A spare would seem like a good thing to have.
