New Autopilot

Post by chrismalpass »

I am thinking of fitting a Raymarine EV200 Linear drive system to my Discus - wheel steering. Does anybody out there have any experience of this system or recommendations/advice before I purchase it? Thank you.

I fitted the EV100 tiller to my Fulmar. Far superior for directional control than the old Autohelm 2000 it replaced. You should be pleased with it if you choose the EV200.

The EV200 is an excellent piece of equipment. I have fitted one to my Oceanranger. For me the most complicated thing was to get a tiller for the horizontal drive, which could be fitted on the rudder stock. See picture below, where you see the custom made tiller and the rudder angle sensor.

Also you'll need a mounting bracket for the linear drive. The forces need to be considered.

Jolly Roger and Wolfgang,

Many thanks for your positive comments and advice - particularly the photographs Wolfgang.

I think this is definitely the system for me. I'll let you know how it goes.

All best wishes,

Chris

We fitted a spx10 course computer , p70 controller and a linear drive to our ketch Discus ARAWA 3 years ago. All I will say is make the mount for the linear drive as strong as possible. Big forces here. The quadrant off the top of the rudder post was 1/2 " steel plate bolted to the existing top mount. 12mm bolts plus locktite. Hasn't given any problems so far
