Boat Swap/Share

Post by atruscott »

I am pleased to say that the suggestions recently made on the Discussion Group have been taken up by WOA Flag Officers; we intend to provide a ‘Boat Swap’ item in the Classified Advertisement section on the WOA Website. Members will be able to use this service free of charge. It will also be available to non members on the same terms as craft advertisements.

My thanks to the Moderator for flagging this up as a service that will be useful to Westerly owners, I’m sure good use will be made of it. Details will be posted when the changes have been applied to the WOA Website.

I know that there is sometimes a problem with direct or implied reference to a boat to be sold, it is always difficult to know how best to handle this. We try to be helpful to the Forum member concerned as often it is done by accident. Our rules are there to preserve the quality and usefulness of the Web Forum for the members. We believe that opening it up to the commercial aspect of boat ownership will detract from the main purpose. I am sure that the opportunities to advertise on the WOA site are all that is needed, our experience is that our advertisers find the site very effective.

The grey wet and windy weather has kept most of our boats on their moorings longer than usual but at last the forecast is looking better so good sailing everyone.

We have now added a boat swap-shop - http://westerly-owners.co.uk/boatswop.php - to the main site. The facility is open to all (and free to members) provided a Westerly is on one side of the proposed exchange.

What we will allow, if you may excuse my use of my word "allow", is a post showing the boat/equipment for sale/swap with a link to the For Sale section on the WOA main site. No price in the post. That, and a full description of the item for sale/swap, will be with the item advertised on the main site. Place the advert before copying the link to it.

Once contact has been made, further contact is to be between poster and recipient.

I will not be moderating these posts, and hope members will adhere to this principle - but I will moderate blatant contempt or abuse of the facility.

I am very easy going as to moderation, so please don't upset me!

Philip

Re: Boat Swap - an update

An update.

As some of you have already found and are using, we have listened to your requests and have updated the Boat Swop-shop to a Boat Swop/Share.

We have now added a boat *share* to the swap-shop - http://westerly-owners.co.uk/boatswop.php - on the main site. The facility is open to all (and free to members) provided a Westerly is on one side of the proposed exchange.

The same details are required for the Share facility as with the Swop shop.

regards,
Philip.
