fitting a Lofrans Royal windlass to my centaur

Another project that I wish to carry out before April is to fit a Lofrans Royal windlass to my centaur. As the hawse pipe is offset to the port side of the boat and the windlass is basically right handed does it mean filling and re positioning the chain pipe. or has anyone come up with another method? I have already purchased the windlass. An electric one and fittings would be beyond my means as I have a lot to do in a short time.
Anyone's help would be very gratefully accepted. :D
Thanks
Alby.

I have just fitted a Lofrans X1, I couldn't see any option but filling the old, with the X1 the new pipe position needs to be under the windlass base.

Thanks for your reply Gary. It has given me the confirmation I was looking for.

Now bought a new electric windlass, lewmar pro series 1000, so fitting that instead of Lofrans Royal. Easier to push a button when on my own.

Let us know how you get on. I'm currently suffering with the chain piling. I'm trying to move the cahin pipe futher aft so that in falls in to a deeper area of the locker.

Often wondered about a windlass, but seems like an unnecessary complication to me, and an electric one needs a big cable.

Btw, the pipe carrying the cable between the chain locker and the deck is the navel pipe - the hawse pipe carries it over the side if you have bulwarks or similar. Good idea to have it over the deepest part of the locker, but won't that interfere with the berths in the fo'c'sle?

Yep, it will, but I do not often use that berth. and I think it will be far enough aft, to not to make it unuasable when needed. I guess we'll see.

Hi Albert, does this mean you have the original windlass you purchased up for sale? If so I might be interested in taking it off your hands. I'm based just up the road from you in Berwick upon Tweed.

I have jus fitted an electric windlass to my Griffon, similar fordeck arrangement, I modified the chain locker and put in overside drains rather than draining to the bilge.

I have used it a few times now, it makes anchoring very much easier and less strain

I will post some pics later

Some pics would be great, once I have cured the chain piling issue, I'll be looking at the drainage

I have just moved to the Orwell, great to see lot's of Westerlys.

Thanks, that would be great. I'll give you a shout when I know I'll be passing. Shame this thread wasn't a couple of weeks ago, I was at the RHYC then for the Westerly Rally.
