Swimming platform
We have a konsort circa 1980 and I have a yen for a bathing platform. Clearly not a simple thing with a transom hung rudder. Has anyone any experience of such a beast? Any comments, drawings or suggestions of anyone who would construct one would be gratefully received.
Cheers

Re: Swimming platform
Welcome to the WOA forum.
I have never seen a bathing platform on a Konsort. You could certainly try creating one as a mock up using corrugated board and masking tape. Being a transom hung rudder would mean you must leave the arc swept by the rudder. You could either have a step either side or a deeper platform that protrudes aft of the rudder. Once a design has been decided on, then the templates and measurements would assist in a local stainless steel welder creating the tube work. You would also need teak slats or a painted glassfibre panel to stand on for grip, the choice being dependant on cost and time considerations.

Re: Swimming platform
I have seen one on a Jeanneau Tonic which has a transom hung rudder.
It was in two halves with room for the rudder to travel between the sections.
It was on davidpbo's boat, a contributor on the YBW forums he may have a pic you could look at.

Re: Swimming platform
Thanks
the idea would be to have a cut out in the plarform for the arc of the rudder but still carry on the steel structure just beyond the rudder to create protection and to provide a potential anchorage point for an inflatable.
I think I will make a mock up out of wood so that I can get the dimensions and angles just right.
My problem is finding a local person working in stainless.
Cheers

Re: Swimming platform
When asking about stainless, make sure it is 316 (marine grade) and it is electro polished. To find a manufacturer locally, ask in a yacht club, at a marina or a chandlery.
You will find using cardboard much easier to start with to make a template, then make a plywood template if you need it.

Like the graphics very much. Definitely something like that but in stainless and wood. Cardiff marina group have recently taken over the Aberystwyth marina and they may have some helpful contacts. I'll try them as we have few facilities around here.

Re: Swimming platform
Great graphics, Nigel - did you create that?
As designed there, it looks like it will increase the waterline length and therefore the hull speed. However, any advantage gained there might be counteracted by the turbulence created as the water tries to flow past. Might be wise to consult a naval architect/yacht designer/Mr Google about that....

Re: Swimming platform
I wish I was that clever Steve! No I found it on a website for a 28' multichine plywood design:
