Hull number/Lloyds number confusion

In renewing the registration of Copain (Konsort KT550) I have been asked to supply the hull number. No problem, I thought, it's impressed below the rubbing strake on the stern to starboard of the tiller, and in my case is SOU027384. But I also have a Lloyds Certificate of Hull Construction and a plate on the compression post carrying the number SOU 410273. The yard number is D 418.

The Westerly Wiki seems to imply that the hull number is just the Lloyds number, in which case I can't understand why mine differ. It also says that the last two digits relate to the year of mould, so SOU027384 looks like the right hull number as the boat was delivered new in mid-1984. Have I misunderstood the Wiki? I can tell from my inherited paperwork that the Lloyds documentation wasn't issued until six months after the boat was delivered, so I suppose a mistake could have been made.

Can anyone throw any light on the issue?

The hull number on the transom will be the correct one. You could try contacting Caroline Hardy at Trafalgar Yachts as she is ex Westerly and has a lot of the paperwork. She is very helpful on these matters.

It would appear The lloyds number is basicly the same with just the year added to it

Hi - I have posted about this before, in another thread.

Our Konsort Duo 29 "Two Hoots" also has two different numbers. Here is the data:
HIN (Lloyds plate): SOU 510408
HIN (embossed in transom): SOU 040885
Sail No.: KD/8
Yard No.: DM.8
The Builder's Yard Certificate (we have the original) is dated 1985 but it does not give the HIN.

I think the embossed HIN in the transom is the correct number because it ends "85" which is the year the yacht was built. What I want to know is why do some of the Lloyds plates on Westerlys have a different number to the transom? You can see how similar the two HINs are, but why would Lloyds have added "51" at the beginning and deleted the year of build at the end?

My Konsort's lloyds cert ( A4 bit of paper ) has got yard number on it D 187 and date of finish and a cert number

The number on the Lloyds plate on compression plate might be a Lloyds type approval

The D187 yard number meant it was boat number 187 built in shed D.

I'm sorry to disagree with JR, but, as has been stated before, the D refers to that being a twin keel variant. Fin keels were E(x). It is the same with Fulmar's - the letter refers to the keel type.

I'm interested to know where the view that "shed number" is part of the yard number comes from, as this is not the case.

I am sure I had read on the forum that the yard number refered to which shed it was built in by letter and the number was the hull number in that shed. I do not believe the letter refers to the keel type as that would not conform to on my Fulmar.

Searching the forum I did read Caroline Hardy's post http://www.westerly-owners.co.uk/woafor ... ber#p10855 and this mentions nothing about keel type.

Can anyone fully clarify what the yard number refers to?

The answer to the two numbers is that one (SOU027384) is the HIN ("Hull Identification Number"), and the other (SOU 410273) is, as the title suggests, the Lloyds Certificate. Although similar, they do not represent the same thing!
