new Beta engine on a Griffon

Post by chrisbarton » Thu Apr 05, 2018 10:30 am

Good morning.
I have just had a new Beta 20hp 3 cylinder replacement for my Volvo MD7A. this included a new RH prop. On my Griffon
Sea trial this week
I was most disappointed to find the previously well balanced tiller when motoring now vered sharply to port as soon as it was released.
When the revs were more than 2000, it was difficult to hold a course without going to port. This is potentially dangerous if suddenly vering to port near other boats or moorings with difficulty correcting it.
I am not sure if the autohelm would hold it in anything of a sea.
My engineer did not have an answer.
Could this be due to size of prop?

Has anyone had similar problems?

Chris

Chris,

Good luck tracking down the cause. A bit of a worry. Which prop did you go for? I would imagine I will be needing similar (or not) when I re-engine my Centaur.

Interested to hear how you resolve this (or at least track down the cause, which must be prop related).

Good luck,

Will
