Yes .... amazingly simple explanation. I felt a bit stupid but as you have found pumping technique is not obvious.

I think if you have to move it why not ditch it and get one of those swizzle on jobbies. Those CAV's are a black art and I would hate to have to try to change one at sea....

Yes I agree. Anyone got a suggestion. The Racor 500 turbine filter looks good. I have one of those but it is on my fuel pollisher.

Having experienced engine failure due to a fuel blockage, all in failing light with the wind picking up and the sea state becoming "interesting", I subsequently relocated everything so that it is now very easy to get to. On the advice of YBW I also fitted a one way priming bulb before the primary filter. This makes bleed and priming a doodle. Press the bulb until it hardens up and then undo bleed points one at a time and listen to the air gushing out. Be ready to close it offf quickly as the fuel comes out rapidly too.
