Konsort Engine compartment volume

Post by Peter and Monica » Thu Feb 05, 2015 8:48 pm

I'm sourcing a new engine compartment fire extinguisher for our Konsort, Sundowner. The extinguisher suppliers need to know the volume of the compartment to determine whether a 1kg extinguisher is big enough, or whether it requires a 2kg device. Unfortunately, Sundowner is down on the Vilaine in France, and we're not visiting until April so I can't just "pop over" and get the dimensions. Can anybody help? Regards, Peter Howell.

Peter,

Your problem is that the rear of the engine bay is open to at least it is on Rhumlady. This means the volume will include the cockpit locker so I think you will need the 2kg one. Having said that Rhumlady was bought by the first owner as a home completed boat and while I think that area was probably factory fitted I may be wrong. By the time I finish refitting it will be completely enclosed at the aft end. I am going to take the air intake from the cabin through vents that can be closed off.
