Vessel range on engine

The occasions when I have to take the above fact (rough guide) into account are years apart. However, next Month we set off from Lisbon to the Azores in our Typhoon and I am not sure of my rule of thumb, miles per litre at 5 knts - Volvo 28hp Mike C

Welcome to the Forum.

Personally with a Typhoon, I think I would sail all the way. I would guess you would use 2 to 2½ litres an hour. It would always depend on the sea condition and whether you were able to motor sail. If you allowed for 3 litres per hour, then that should be a reasonable estimate.
