Re: Across hull strengthener
I have to say that I don't understand what that 'strengthener' is doing as to achieve anything - it needs to be attached to the hull right along its length. It may be to support the cabin sole.

Re: Anybody know what this is?
Maybe there was a shackle onto the stemhead fitting and the Norseman connected to that. Not a good idea but not uncommon either.

Re: Electric bilge pump for Oceanranger
One thing to remember about stringers is that this strength comes from the top and bottom, the hull being the bottom. The upstand is there to keep the spacing. And cuts in the top weakens the stringer. I will be drilling out the upstanding parts to do exactly what you are looking for. Do remember to...

Re: Rubbing strake - how is it fixed?
On the Konsort there are eight or ten bolts either side that don't go through the rubbing strake. These must have been to hold the hull and deck together prior to fitting the strake. I got totally confused by this when removing the strakes as two nuts next to each other with only one plug on the out...

Double nuts with a plate beneath them. This is usually a square plate. The nuts are usually stainless steel.

Re: Typhoon Mainsail Outhaul.
I think you already know the answer and that is to remove both ends. That way you can see what is inside. Getting the ends off may well prove challenging though.[DISAPPOINTED FACE]

Re: Konsort Engine compartment volume
Peter, Your problem is that the rear of the engine bay is open to at least it is on Rhumlady. This means the volume will include the cockpit locker so I think you will need the 2kg one. Having said that Rhumlady was bought by the first owner as a home completed boat and while I think that area was p...

Re: Leaky Konsort roof
I think I know what you mean by the third bar but I have never seen one fitted. I believe they thought the water would run out onto the curved coachroof and then out through the holes onto the deck. Something like you specified may well do or a canvas cover rolled over the hatch and fixed in the coc...

Re: Leaky Konsort roof
Dave, You can remove the hatch cover as long as you get at the nuts under the headlining. As you probably know from your Centaur Westerly made a habit of using bolt croppers to chop the excess from any bolts which makes removing them a two man job in most cases. I did have rust stains around some of...

Re: Leaky Konsort roof
Firstly you need to know that any water getting through the deck is going to get into the balsa core and potentially cause serious problems with rot which can be very difficult to sort once it sets in. I do have experience in this respect which was caused by failing to seal the holes left when the a...

Re: baby stays on Centaur
The baby stay opposes the aft lowers and ensures the mast doesn't 'invert' by which I mean bend with the centre going aft. It also stops it 'pumping' which is the vibration which can affect the mast and be a real pain in the backside. You could fit forward lowers on each side which would help clear ...

Re: W33 Ketch relaminating hull
I used roving when rebuilding the structure above the keel which was sodden with water and diesel. It used West epoxy which was expensive but I was looking for strength in the repair. Roger got me using a stitched cloth where the fibres are laid diagonally and held together by the stitching. It drap...

Re: Fulmar handrail removal
Only one glassed in? They must have had an off day. Did you have problems removing the nuts due to the bolt being cut with bolt croppers?
