Re: Mooring Strops

Just put the strop through the bow roller and lead it back to a cleat, I think you are over thinking it. Use the keep pin to stop the strop jumping out of the roller. Since you have 2 rollers you could even have a second slightly longer strop to the cleat at the other side to act as backup it the pr...

Re: Griffon Charging

I have a 1,2,Both, off switch on my Centaur (boat is not relevant). The switch decides which battery or batteries juice is taken from. When the engine is running the alternator charges both batteries no matter where the switch is set, so long as it's not OFF. Flickering charging lights are the work ...

Re: Westerly 21

I have seen Proctor masts without a pivot bolt in the mast foot. There was a bolt like yours front and back though to keep things honest.

Re: Centaur Reefing setup

If you Google Barton reefing you will see allsorts of setups. One I saw took the line to a turning block at the mast end of the boom and routed it back to the cockpit, no cleat on boom for that. Lots of friction and pointless complication if you still have to go up to hook on the tack though. You us...

Re: Centaur Reefing setup

OK, step by step to do before you set off: 1, Fix the halyard to the head board and hoist the main so that it's a foot short of the reef you want to put in. 2, hook the reef tack onto one of your rams horns, you will need to turn over the one which hangs down, it's the wrong way up, then take up the...

Re: Ultrasound antifouling systems

I don't have unlimited power so use paint.

Do you need to be plugged in to use Ultrasound? If so, not an option for swingers.

Re: Staining to hull.

If oxalic doesn't work the best thing you can do is forget about it and go sailing.

The boat won't sail any faster if it's white.

The engine won't be more reliable if the boat looks good.

No one further than a few yards away will be able to see any difference.

Re: Rainwater has flooded my Centaur!

I was thinking after I posted, my under berth lockers don't connect with the bilge so any water in there gets in from above. The lockers under the quarter berths don't connect to the bilge either but some water got in there via the companionway, via puddles on the inner moulding ( the cushions were ...

Re: Rainwater has flooded my Centaur!

Are you sure it's getting in round the locker lid? It always seems a poor option when folk blame this seal, the water does have to go up hill to get over the lip round the locker opening. If the boat isn't on a swinging mooring I would look at the companionway, my Centaur leaked there when it was on...

George, I'm not selling a Pageant.

The 20 trail sailer is on Windermere but that's not a Westerly.

Re: Common areas for leaks in a Centaur?

I got a 10m roll of 3mm white butyl tape from a local double glazing firm for about £4:50.

it's about half a mile from my work so I collected it in person.

Re: WARNING - Attempted Fraud

Someone wants to buy my Centaur and either hasn't read the advert or knows nothing about boats or both.

Is it fraud to accept payment and sit on the cheque for 6 months without transferring ownership?
