HI,
I had the same problem two years ago but on a Volvo MD 2030, it turned out to be the relay was duff thus not producing the power to heat up the plugs. It was a sod to start until I changed the relay (£3 bit) but now starts first time every time.

Steve

Re: Looking for a Boat (and mooring)
Hi Keneth, It's not the wrong time of the year to buy a boat. At the moment the boat market is dead and I would say that it will remain like that for a few months to come, at the moment it is a 'buyer market' so if you have the money I would go in with a cash offer, you never know what you may end u...

Re: Looking at Tempest 31
Hi Contessa 32, yep another good boat, good full length keel with great windward performance (could go to windward day without any fuss). A bit of a pig when going backwards but hey-ho who goes backwards across the pond!? A friend of mine did the Atlantic in a Ketch Rigged Westerly 33(bilge keel) ca...

Re: Looking at Tempest 31
Hi Paul, I fully agree with Mike comments. However, he lost me a bit in the first paragraphs!! But having done many thousands of miles of sailing and nearly 15,000 miles of it in deep ocean I would fully support his last paragraph. There are many yacht designs out there which fit the bill, Nicholson'...

Hi Paul, I don't know what is going on with the Forum but my post on the question you put on, hasn't been posted or is somewhere in mid air! It would be easier for me to speak on the landline on the subject, happy to talk number in WOA handbook. I have done a fair bit of ocean sailing and what I lea...

Hi Paul,
Just seen Jolly Roger's post just minutes after posting mine, you are male!!(sorry about my mistake!) Would you be taking the wife with you? If so, she has to be happy and at one with the boat as well, not just you.
Regards
Steve

Re: Removing the main on my Westerly Konsort
Hi Patrick, Agree with Nigel. Always remove your sails and canvas work each winter, if you leave it on it's open to what the winter weather throws at us. Things like mildew grows quite well during the damp winters months and if we have another storm like this weekend and your sails and canvas work a...

Re: Replacing the shaft seal on a VP2002
Hi Alastair, I did mine several years back and I had problems getting the 6 bolts out! You are nearly there, you don't have to take the 4 bolts out you described. But be careful when pulling the shaft out. If your 6 bolts on the flange came out easy then I would say that the shaft etc has remove in r...

Re: Moisture delamination risk in hull of westerly pentland
Hi, Further to my last post, I don't know where you are in the UK but Trafalgar Yachts have a 79 Pentland with a 1998 engine in it .It's on their books for an asking price of £15500, I don't know if it is still up for sale or it has been sold. It might be worth giving them a ring and get a few more ...

Re: Moisture delamination risk in hull of westerly pentland
Hi, I am a proud owner of a 79 Westerly Pentland - WALKABOUT. Early Westerly models(especially Centaurs) did suffer from weak area's around where the keels were attached to the hull and guidance was given by Westerly to stiffened up around the keel bolts etc. Later models had this area upgraded on b...

Re: oil change questions
Hi J, I fully agree with Brightstar, for what it cost to do the oil change (filter and oil) I would do it each year after your season has finish. What you must put into the argument is: What is the cost of a new engine if it all goes wrong by not doing it?! I am however a Belt and Braces person and ...

Hi John, May I suggest using a loctite product instead of sealant, they produce various products for different jobs, one of them is purpose made for locking metal threads etc, comes in different colours for different strength's, It also comes in a small tube which lasts for a few seasons. Suggest yo...

Re: Re-bedding Pageant Keels
Hi Mike, Any photo's? The older Westerlies, especially bilge keeled yachts suffer from this. I agree with Jolly Roger but before you go removing keels at great expense have a look in your bilges around the keel bolts to see if you have any saltwater. If you haven't that is a good indication that the...

Re: replacing rudder bearings on a storm 33
Hi, A lot has been written on this Forum on rudder bearings and how to do it. I for one have written several times explaining the process, may I suggest doing a search on the Forum.I have done this several times over the years to my boats and other people boats and have learnt a lot by doing them. I...

Re: side stays on Longbow 31
Hi Yvone, I would leave it as it was designed for by Westerly all those years ago, I haven't heard of any 31 foot hulls(Pentland/Berwick/Renown/Longbow) having major problems with the deck plates. Yes, they need checking once in a while and if they leak re-bedding in etc. The cap shrouds come down t...
