Hi, I am surprised that no one has posted on this one! I think the problem you have is that the last owner used a different anti foul than the one that was already on the hull, without using a barrier coat on first (ie underwater primer) and as a result the two anti fouls being different have re-act...

Re: Centaur rudder removal
Hi, I have done this several times on three different Westerlies, you have removed the righst bit on the top and normally the rudder(by the shear weight of it) will drop down when moving it from side to side from under the boat. Make sure you have enough clearance under the boat to remove the rudder...

Re: Fulmar Gas Locker
Hi Ken, I won't be able to tell you about the Calor Gas side of things but I must ask you what you have at the moment (Camping Gaz 907's?) and the other question is where do you do most of your sailing, around UK or over in France? Most of my sailing is in France, Biscay etc and I can tell you now t...

Re: New Clipper Duet Stopped working
Hi David,
Thanks for that information David, I will remove my paddle wheel when the boat comes out of the water in December. I will more than likely take the paddle wheel home to do it.
Very useful tip and thanks for that ...learn something every day!

Re: New Clipper Duet Stopped working
Hi David, Further to my last post. I have googled Echo Anti foul and found the stuff in question, the blurb states that: To be used for tranducers but doesn't mention anything about paddle wheels. You say that Raymarine suggested that you use this stuff on the paddle wheel when you fitted your new l...

Re: New Clipper Duet Stopped working
Hi Hillary, I get this on my NAVMAN duel speed and depth, every time the problem has been the fouling of the paddle wheel. They are well known for this especially in high fouling areas, I tend to remove mine every 2 months or so to keep it working correctly by cleaning the paddle wheel with a tooth ...

Re: Washing cushion covers
Hi, We clean our cushions at the start of the season using our Vax carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment and a specialised upholstery cleaner it gets all the dirt out. If you haven't got a Vax just hire a carpet cleaner something like Rug Doctor with the necessary attachments to do the job. R...

Re: New sink unit and electric water pump
Hi, Have a talk with Penguin Engineering (Hayling Island way) they supply most sinks, taps, showers etc for the Marine world, they are not that expensive and of good quality. They would advise you on the way ahead. I found them to be excellent, with no pushy sales pitch. Regards Steve Parry - WALKAB...

Re: Centaur engine mounts
Hi Alex, I think you will find that your current engine is not original, normally Centaurs would have Volvo MD series (like MD11B/C - either 23 or 25 HP) So yours has been replaced at some time during it's life. As regards the engine mounts - Any good engine agents Beta/Vetus or local marine enginee...

Re: BLACK SOOTY HAZE AROUND THE EXHAUST OUTLET
Hi All, Further to my last, I have just come from the Southampton Boat Show where I asked the same question to several of the engine manufacturers (Vetus/Volvo/Beta) and the response was more or less the same. They said that if you look at what Red Diesel is used on and for i.e. Farm vehicles, tract...

Re: autohelm 3000
Hi Paul, Further to my last: I have just Googled clutch for the 3000 and you can still get them, however, you have to send to the States to get it, cost $48 which at the current exchange rate isn't that bad. That's if the problem you have with your system is the clutch assembly? Regards Steve Parry ...

Re: Westerly aground in the Wirral
Hi All,
Yep seen the photo, looks like a Centaur to me. They built them well in those days!! I don't know the out come of this grounding or how much damage was done, if it had been another make of yacht I wonder if it would have survived?
Regards

Re: MERLIN decal and pinstripe
Hi, I have replaced mine several times on different Westerlies, It's quite easy to do. I don't think there is a company that keeps them on the shelf for want of words, you have to make it up yourself. To keep this short, I took a tracing of the lettering (like brass rubbing just rub a soft pencil ov...
