Butane or Propane

I need to replace the regulator and buy gas bottles for my Merlin. The surveyor suggested Propane as I sail through winter and also because the gas bottles do not drop paint flakes all over the boat as the blue ones do - apparently. Does the Flavel cooker work with Propane and are there any other fa...

Merlin / Regatta 290 heads etiquette

Just buying my first Westerly, a Regatta 290 and have an important if delicate question about heads etiquette - specifically the seacocks. I have been surprised how inaccessible the heads seacocks are so the idea of shutting them off every time after use while sailing is not a pleasant one. Is there...

Re: Locker catches

Roger, thanks but that link goes to a cockpit locker latch which is not what I am after. What I am after are the chrome round push buttons that Westerly use inside for virtually all internal storage locker doors. I'll try to work out how to attach a picture. Rene

Locker catches

Is it possible to buy those lovely chrome round clicking catches fitted as far as I can tell to all Westerlys as a new fitting? Or must I trawl boat jumbles to find used ones? 8)

Re: Navigators & General WOA scheme

The swinging moorings in Keyhaven are laid and checked under the watchful eye of the river warden. While I can accept that some insurers may want to limit winter use, the N&G exclusion between 1 Oct to 30 April is simply useless IMHO. Anyway I have found insurers who will cover me for 365 days in co...

Navigators & General WOA scheme

I am buying my first Westerly, having learned to sail on a club Sealord many years ago, I am now buying a Regatta 290. The berth I have for her is a deep-water swinging mooring in Keyhaven, just allocated to me after many years on the waiting list. Imagine my surprise when speaking to N&G about insu...

Merlin 29 - spinnaker setup

I am buying a Merlin 29 but she does not have a spinnaker or pole and other fittings. Please can anyone suggest where I can source a pole and what other fittings I need to attach the pole to the mast, where to put the sheet and guy pulleys etc?
