Re: Changing shaft size

Hi folks and thanks for the response. Yes the centaur has a strange O.D of 34mm for the cutlass but trafalgar supply them. For a bit extra than what an off the shelf one cost but then no need for a lathe. I used to have a normal type stuffing gland but have almost decided on fitting Radice lip seal....

Re: MD11C oil strainer removeal tool

If you haven't found the tool required try searching for "pin spanner" most places have them. Maybe not B&Q but RS online or Cromwell will

Changing shaft size

This might seem a silly question but thought I'd better ask before spending my dosh. My centaur currently has a 1" shaft and I'd like to change to 25mm. If I'm also changing my shaft seal, prop, cutlass bearing and coupling is there any reason why this would be an issue. I suppose the only thing lef...

Re: Electric powered Westerly

Just some food for thought my outlander phev takes 5 hours to charge and goes for about 30 miles but the lithium batteries weight about 400-500kg. Having read what folks are saying it sounds like the draw for the motor is 40A DC. That alone sounds scary to me. But if you can pull it off with maybe 4...

Re: Re-Engine

Thank you for the heads up.
If I can get the flywheel off I think I'll strip her to the point of taking it out from the cockpit sole. Only time will tell.

Re-Engine

So in light of my recent engine troubles I've decided to drop a Beta 20 in my 73 centaur so that I can get on with some sailing, ironic i know. I've had her since May and while I know it may not be wise financially I know it needs doing so the sooner the better. I plan to keep her at least 8 years. ...

Re: MD2B not starting and can't rev

Hi tyro, And thanks for your post. It is a tricky one. I could repower for just a bit more than what I paid for the boat if I did a lot myself and have a very reliable donk. While I know it's not financially sensible it would give me some peace of mind and I would get to do some more sailing. Gettin...

Re: MD2B not starting and can't rev

Hi and agiain thank you for your post. Bit of an update: I went through the fuel system today. Leaning bleeding and new filter, rebuilt the lift pump and primed up. Still nothing. Went for dinner and decided to have a little look in the engine bay. I tried turning the engine over by hand with the de...

Re: MD2B not starting and can't rev

Hi brightstar and thank you for the response.

Just to check before I get busy with the spanners, I don't need a special removal tool for them? I don't want to damage them.

MD2B not starting and can't rev

Good evening all, I'm having yet another fun week aboard. Engine just won't start today. Yesterday it started, having been sat for 2 months, and ran for an hour. Stopped to get everything stowed away on a mooring buoy then starting the engine again was a pig. Took several attempts of 30-60 secs on t...

How embarrassing. I added an extra cable to the key switch. Removing this has resolved the problem

Re: Engine solenoid fuse

Hi tyro and thanks for the response. It's a starter motor alternator setup. The second battery was suppose to be the engine battery and is wired to a off/1/all/2 switch with the original battery is now the leisure battery. The idea being either could start the engine and be charge by the alternator....

Engine solenoid fuse

Hi all, I'm a new owner of a centaur and have a md2b. This has ran well and used to start with out hiccup. I then foolishly tried to improve things by adding a second battery. This immediately stopped the engine starting on the starter motor but would hand start fine. I traced this to a broken neutr...
