Old Volvo control level with tmc40 gearbox

Good evening all, I've finished the install of my shiny new engine and have come to the finale of the throttle/gearchange. I've installed the morse cables roughly but could do with some advice on how to fine tune them, especially the gear change. Currently the throttle is fine but very sensitive. Th...

Centaur rudder tube

Good morning, Just wondering if anyone has had the pleasure of removing a rudder tube from a centaur? The lower bearing carrier has flared over the years and I'm a bit concerned the new bearings will be a bit small at the lip. I'm going to put a hatch in the aft locker to get to the bolts. Once the ...

Re: Centaur Aft lower shrouds

Excellent point, I didn't think of the boom. I've come from a fractional rig previously so the mast head is a treat for me. I will look at the internal and see if I can get a strip of stainless glassed in. The lowers were at 15% breaking so think it's okay tightness wise but the mast base has compre...

Centaur Aft lower shrouds

Good evening, I have an older Centaur with the shrouds over the window. When pressed hard over (20-30deg) i've noticed they go slack one side even though they are tensioned. I'm assuming there is some flexing going on. From what I've read on here the common route to resolving this is to move them to...

Re: Shaft seal for centaur

May I recommend a radice seal. I got mine from lake engineering from eBay and it arrived quickly with good instructions. Just check and re check your shaft size.
Also these types of lip seals need a good surface to seal so a scratched shaft might cause problems.

Re: Re-Engine

Engines on its bearers! Not bolted down but I feel this is a big step to completion. Thank you for everyone's help and tips. I bottled it in the end and got the yards crane to drop the engine into the salon. Hope to get rough alignment sorted tomorrow then it r my next visit in Feb get it finished. ...

Mast compression (centaur)

Good evening and happy new year to all. I have the dread dip at my mast foot but more worryingly there is compression inside at the base of the compression post. It appears that the movement in the mast base is due to the base of the compression post. Has anyone repaired/beefed up this area at all? ...

Re: Re-Engine

Hi Hillary, My beta 20 arrives 13th jan (friday). I used 100x75x8mm angle and is matched to the old mounts vertical position but that was a volvo md2b engine. I got a new prop delivered for £184 and shaft £125. If you'd like more detail Pm me. I'm also not looking forward to alignment but plan to ju...

Re: Changing shaft size

Yes I thought it sounded wrong. I rang the supplier of the cutless bearing and they said 10thou is normal in new bearings. It's stamped 25x34x60 which should be perfect for my new 25mm vetus shaft. Annoyingly the bearing is now in the holder so I am going to have to retrieve it some how as they want...

Re: Changing shaft size

So a bit of an update. Got my shaft and cutless bearing.
Both 25mm. Seems there's a small amount of play between the shaft and rubber. Is this normal?

I was expecting a tight fit, but that wasn't based on anything just a theory.

Re: Changing shaft size

If it works then why not. The only reason for changing to 25mm from one inch is that some of the parts I'm sourcing are easier to get in 25mm. Still struggling on where to get a shaft. I'd like to buy a prop and shaft from the same place so that taper and keying is done to match if you catch my drif...

Re: Changing shaft size

From what I read a volvo seal needs burping to equalise so if you dry you would need to "burp" every time before starting the engine. That sound like hard work lifting the floor every time so I'd prefer a self venting system. If what you have is a vetus seal then yours will also self vent so nothing...
