Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

Well - that's what I thought, but a number of people told me that it might be that. The boat had been sitting in the yard for 18 months when I bought it, so it must be at least two years old. I've pumped/drained it out already anyway: there was only a couple of gallons and I have most of that in big...

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

Hmmmm.... I was pumping that to try and get the air out of the secondary filter - nothing seemed to happen for a bit and then I got a jet of diesel in the face, which was one of life's less pleasant experiences.... I think I'll line up the local mechanic but as soon as I get back to the boat I'll ri...

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

Thanks - looks useful. That tells me it's a fuel/injector pump fault (as I thought) or :? a broken timing chain :!: Unless, of course, you know different...

Ah! Glorious mud!

Having said that, I think my heads outlet valve is blocked with it :-(

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

There's a thought. It would have to be both of them though, as it should run on just one cylinder - shouldn't it? So more likely to be the fuel pump, injector pump or something like that??

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

Heh heh.... good question, but yes it is. And, with my head in there as someone else operated it I was even able to see what it does. If only....

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Showed it to Paul from xwrigging who (he says) is the expert on Centaur rigging. Now awaiting a quotation.
Tidied up, put bowl under the window that leaks, locked up and left it for a couple of weeks.

Hoping to get the engine fixed next time I'm there - then I can finally go sailing....

Re: Rotostay Grease?

I met Paul this morning when he came to give me a quotation for new rigging for my Centaur. Seems like a pleasant and knowledgeable bloke - is he widely recommended?
(I also have an early Rotostay, which he says his father designed!)

Re: Watermota Panther Ignition

A marine diesel engine (I assume it's a diesel?) should never be turned off with the 'ignition' key. Dire consequences result, I believe, but someone more knowledgeable will no doubt tell you what. Probably the alternator, which might explain why the light flickers. There should be a T-handle on the...

MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

The story so far... I bought my Centaur, which had been sitting in the boatpark for 18 months, and happily motorsailed round from Langstone to Southampton, running the newly serviced engine for five hours. I then ran it every day or two for a bit to charge the batteries. On one occasion we were off ...

MD2B - leaking pipe causing severe rust

Evenin' all My recently acquired Centaur has a severe cooling (sea)water leak from a pipe just below the exhaust manifold high up on the starboard side. The hot salt water dripping out has clearly caused severe rust over the years, which I've started to clean off: amongst the chunks coming off are a...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Morning All :-)

I'm heading down to the boat shortly and will pump the bilges, refit the starter motor and test it, charge the batteries, look for the leaks from the cooling system, take the motor off again, clean off the rust (long job), do something about the leaks.....

I've tried sleeping with a duvet under me as well as over me if I've been on an uncomfartable bed - with some success. Worth a try before you spend any money?

Re: Water under floor boards Centaur

Hi all - first post I've recently bought a Centaur (my first boat) and have a similar problem. The water under the engine is from the stern gland - and probably from leaks in the cooling system which I'm about to investigate. I too can't find a limber hole between the engine bilge and the main one, ...
