MD2B - injector pump problem?

Hi all Another problem with my Centaur engine I'm afraid :-( Having fixed the starter, alternator and coolant leak, while testing the gearbox the engineer and I found that the engine stopped responding to the throttle. The linkage is fine. Ish. After opening it up it takes several seconds for the en...

Re: Recommissioning a Centaur, Portsmouth Area

As far as standing rigging for my Centaur is concerned, I'm shortly going to use XW Rigging. It's owned by Ian Cochrane, who designed the rigging for Westerly back in 1969 and his son Paul, whom I've met and will be doing the work. They're not cheap but I reckon the pedigree is the thing. They're at...

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

I can probably help. I've recently bought a Centaur, and although it's not working at the moment I'd be more than happy to take you out and teach you, in my boat and/or yours, when it exists. I have lots of free time. Where are you?

PM me.

...and then went out for a sail/motor/explore/battery charge today - and the gearbox gave up. But that's another story :(

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

Well. The engineer came yesterday to fix the fuel pump and get to the root of the severe rust problem (see separate thread which I'd include a link to if I was clever enough). He bled the fuel through (I'd rinsed out the tank with the old fuel, filtering it each time so it's now clean and sparkly an...

Re: New to sailing

I wish I'd read Jolly Roger's advice before I bought my Centaur! I, too, wanted a boat I could just get in and sail but the one I've got isn't that boat! Still, there will be valuable lessons in boat maintenance!

How much water should flow through the engine?

Re: New to sailing

I agree about the engine. Mine, which I bought this spring, has its original engine and I wish it hadn't.
Also agree about the space inside. I think it may be where Dr Who got the idea for the Tardis from.
Boatshed is another good set of brokers to search. They have lots of Centaurs too.

Right - I'll try that then. Thanks.
Going down this week for a bit. Engineer coming next Thurs to have a look - and to tell me about the rust.

Re: replacing furling line

I'm going to have to do this soon on an old Rotostay. Looks straightforward, but much more difficult I imagine if yours is the closed-drum type. If so, there must be a way to open it up.

Re: bosuns chair a no no!

If you're not happy about going up, don't go up! I would say two lines are a good idea - one to support you when you're up there, however you get there, and one as a safety line. And one for one of your deck-bound assistants to haul things up to you - no hauling from aloft please. And do tie everyth...

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

Thanks - yes I'll try that too. So it looks like my drill when I get back to the boat is: rinse out the tank with new fuel put a gallon or two of new fuel in turn the engine over by hand/starter motor (decompressors open) to fill the primary filter and separator bowl bleed the air out of the primary...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Rotostay. I've got one, that looks like it's as old as the boat. He says nine out of ten come apart without too much persuasion but the tenth needs a new system at a cost of £1000. I get the impression that he's a reliable and trustworthy chap - am I right? He's quoted me what seems like an e...
