Re: What to look for - Centaur

I wouldn't buy one that hadn't already had the original engine replaced.

Re: New member help please.

When I bought my Centaur a couple of years ago, it suffered from a continually blocked or slow emptying sink. It had a seacock similar to yours. It was stiff and when we went to move it literally fell apart in our hands. We managed to block the hole, but required an emergency lift out the next morni...

Re: Blakes Seacock Alternative

I was going to replace mine with Forespar Marelon, but went with Tru Design, as the fitting is easier.

Delivered yesterday, really impressed with the quality.

Fitting tomorrow.

Re: Propellor maintenance / cleaning

Hi, Congratulations on the Centaur! My MD2B would achieve 2300, but I guess it depends on many factors including prop size, and as you say condition etc. I cleaned teh prop with a battery grinder and one of these blue pads: http://www.westerly-centaur.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/prop-claeaner.j...

Re: Chartplotter, AIS, openCPN

Hi Nigel,

It was, I couldn't get it to work with my machine.

I would have persevered, but I established that the chart data does not include tidal info and is unable to plan passages taking tides into account, so I moved on.

Cheers,

Gary.

Re: Chartplotter, AIS, openCPN

I think one of the first questions to ask is, are openCPN maps available for your area? I did get a USB stick with UK maps, but couldn't get it to work.

Re: Boat insurance recommendations?

I took advantage of the 10% off with Navigators & General, I swapped from GJW a year ago. Cover was easier, more comprehensive (Europe and Single Handing), cheaper too!

Have yet to claim :-) so no experience of that.

Centaur - Chain Pipe and Windlass

To assist in my mainly single handed sailing I am planning to fit a windlass to my Centaur, but I have a couple of issues that need to be resolved first: 1st Issue - Chain Pipe and Locker: Looking at the chain pipe and locker. It appears that there are actually 2 chain lockers and upper and a lower ...

Re: Mooring Strops

It's on my list to investigate fitting further cleats on the foredeck of my Centaur, like TyroSailor I only have the standard one at the moment.

I have added centre cleats http://www.westerly-centaur.co.uk/centre-cleats and these have been great, particularly single handing.

Re: propeller coating?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the heads up, to be honest I was going to probably just rush into it, and slap a couple of coats on.

I have just looked at the instructions on the tin, it looks like I need to prime with Interprotect or Primocon first, is that what you did.

Thanks, Gary.

Re: propeller coating?

I have heard good things about Trilux 33, I have bought a small tin of red and will be trying that this season.
