Re: Changing shaft size

No, for a new bearing I do not believe there should be any play.

When new, it should be a snug fit (not tight), and play only occurs after some wear has taken place.

My understanding is that 1-2mm of play is acceptable, any more and the bearing is due for replacement

Re: Changing shaft size

I was told my Centaur must have a 1" prop shaft due to it's build date. After I had bought a new split coupling, R&D flexi-coupling, and a PSS seal - When I went to fit everything I found out it was actually 25mm. Lesson learned, believe nothing and measure yourself! I do not want to go to the expen...

Yes, and you would need to remove any paint on the pipe prior to fitting.

Re: Pageant shaft diameter

Depending on the date, I believe it can also be 25mm

Re: Re-Engine

Hi, I took the MD2B out of my Centaur earlier this year. I took it out whole, as the flywheel in particular, would have been difficult if not impossible without specialist tools to remove. I used a block and tackle attached to the boom, some pics here: http://www.westerly-centaur.co.uk/centaur-md2b-...

Re: Pageant or other Westerly toilet floor.

Replaced mine this year on a Centaur with 316 stainless, from memory it was just fibreglass and a large washer.

Re: Re-engine a Centaur Advice needed please

Hi Hilary, I sail out of Fosdyke and Wells-next-the-Sea, each with stong currents and Wells a difficult bar,and like you I am keen to have sufficient power with a little in reserve, I was going for the 14hp as I considered it the best match for the boat. To save money I replace with a Volvo MD2020, ...

Re: Re-engine a Centaur Advice needed please

Why such a big engine, would a Beta 14 of 16 be more appropriate?

Re: Re-engine a Centaur Advice needed please

Hi Hilary, I replaced the original VP MD2B in my Centaur over the winter with a refurbished VP MD2020B. The swap over went relatively smoothly itself, although I have yet to sail this year due to an oil leak that I am having difficulty in curing. Part of the reason I was keen to re-engine with the M...

"Mine is a B layout (which I think is the most common) and seems fine, but I'd rather have a big cockpit locker like the C layout."

This would be my preference to!
