Re: Can i use a Magregor 26 mast lowering system on a Centau
Dave I can understand your thoughts on the Tatoo (MacGregor) build quality, it has been built for mainly inland and coastal waters, plus being a trailer sailor it has to be kept very light weight due to towing weight limits. The mast raising system is clever and I cannot see why it should not work o...

Re: Considering buying a Fulmar
Just come across a Storm 33 for sale. It does seem to be a lot more boat than the Fulmar for the additional 15" length and 7" on the beam. It also has a full aft cabin and aft heads. Although it is just over half a ton heavier, it only has an 18hp engine and a masthead rig. On this particu...

Re: Spinnaker Pole dimensions for a Westerly Oceanranger
That is the normal maximum length permitted under the racing rules without a penalty being added to the rating.
So just measure the horizontal distance between the front of the mast and the forestay at deck level and that should be the length of your pole.

Re: Considering buying a Fulmar
The Fulmar mentioned in post 5 on BoatBid at £13,000 failed to attract a bid. In fact only 3 boats out of the 33 in the auction attracted a bid. That still does not mean they are sold if the reserve has not been met!

Re: Considering buying a Fulmar
I believe there is a reserve set as the original asking price was £24,950. The auction starts tomorrow morning and ends Tuesday at 5pm. So far I have found at least 8 Fulmars for sale and one in particular does attract me, but I am not in a position to move quite yet so I am keeping my fingers cros...

Re: Centaur on a trailer?
David you will certainly be pushing the limit if stopped by the police. Full details on trailer law is here: https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car/towing-equipment-safety-standards You might be OK if you stripped everything out of the boat that was possible, e.g. mast, rigging, sails, ropes, fenders, c...

Re: Considering buying a Fulmar
Just seen this Fulmar for sale at a bargain price, but I am not quite ready to buy yet. http://www.boatbid.com/boatbid_boat.php?a=1105&b=143574 It does seem to have the head linings in a poor state and an original engine. Looking at the windows and stantions, I would suspect they have never been...

Re: Bermudan Rigged Sloop
My first yacht, a Hunter Formula One 22ft racing machine, was named Jolly Roger. I traded this in when I bought another yacht, but later recognised her and had an opportunity to speak to the new owner. He had renamed her, but did not realise the spinnaker had an emblem I designed of a skull and cros...

Re: Bermudan Rigged Sloop
Well done Grant, you have taken the plunge of yacht ownership. I personally have never been on a "22", but remember seeing them in the mid 60's. From your photos you seem to have one in fairly good condition. :D The only comment I can make is about your sails not being connected. The mains...

Re: Drawings Needed for Fulmar 33 Scoop Transom
Sorry for the late post on this subject, but I have only recently joined. 30 years ago my late father wanted to do some thing similar on a racing yacht. His solution was to use a thin plywood covered with plastic laminate that he laid against the hull on both sides to follow the hull shape, making s...

Thank you for your comments. Glad to hear there are no major problems to watch out for.
Just need to wait for the completion of my late mum's estate and then it will be buying time.

Re: Considering buying a Fulmar
Bert Glad to hear you love your Fulmar. I shall be looking at a fin keel for the better sailing performance or may be a lifting keel. It will be marina berthed on the River Medway in Kent. I presume you mean the usual Westerly problems relating to head linings. In my reading I have read about the Fu...

Considering buying a Fulmar
After nearly 20 years away from sailing due to family/business pressure,I am going to be returning to owning a yacht. In the 1960's to early 1990's I sailed a considerable amount, including racing on the East Coast Offshore Racing Circuit. The yachts I have sailed extensively include: Kingfisher 30 ...
