Re: GK24 Engine Bay

Degrease the area and then paint with Danbolin bilge paint.

You may decide to fit some sound proofing at the same time. If so, ASAP Supplies will help you. https://www.asap-supplies.com/soundproofing

Re: Single handed sailing

Sailing single handed is certainly very satisfying. You have to be aware of everything going on around you all the time. Short tacking within a fleet of racing keel boats is not to be recommended! Whilst sailing I aim to perform to 90% or more of the potential racing boat speed. So I am constantly c...

Re: Centaur hull sand blasted, advice for next steps please.

Becca Welcome to the WOA Forum and Westerly ownership. If you have not already joined the Westerly Owners Association then I highly recommend it. For £15.00 per year, it is a bargain. On joining you will get a book on the history of Westerly, which is interesting as it includes every model built. Th...

Re: Konsort Saloon Lockers

Tony If you are a member of the Westerly Owners Association, you can check on the members only section of the WOA web site for all the technical articles for the Konsort. If someone has done this modification, then it is most likely to have been reported. If you are not a WOA member, then you should...

Re: Konsort fin keel

You can join the WOA before you buy a Westerly, that's what I did. For £15.00 per year, it is a bargain. On joining you will get a book on the history of Westerly, which is interesting as it includes every model built. There are 2 magazines a year, a year book including a list of members boats and t...

Re: Konsort fin keel

Sorry, only what it says on the web site. Have a word with Mr Wilson or his wife who run Yachtsnet. I have dealt with them and found them to be very knowledgeable and easy to deal with, despite not buying a boat from them. They only will sell boats in better than average condition, and what you see ...

Re: Konsort fin keel

Welcome to the WOA Forum and potentially becoming a Westerly Owner. If you are going to be marina based and not planning to dry out, then always choose the fin as they sail faster. In the attached document you can see the suggested rating for the Konsort fin as 1129 for a bilge keel, and the adjustm...

Re: Prop for Beta25 on Konsort

Flat out I can get over 7½ knots through the water, so a 2 bladed folding propeller will certainly meet your requirements.

Re: Prop for Beta25 on Konsort

Dennis You really should consult a propeller supplier as they will advise you on what is best for a Konsort from their records - and they do not charge. They might even suggest using a 2 bladed propeller. As you are buying a new propeller, you should consider fitting a folding propeller. I have a vi...

Re: Withdrawing prop shaft

When I was doing some work on my prop shaft and separated the coupling, it was fairly easy to pull out using the propeller as I was ashore. As you are on a drying mooring, I suggest you try passing a rope under the rudder and propeller, the pull tight vertically. Staying under tension, move each rop...

Re: Anchor chain and rode

It is not normal to not have a deck eye to secure the end of the rope. On my Fulmar, which is all chain, there is a short length of rope at the very end, long enough to feed on deck, just in case it needs to be cut in a hurry. I would buy a deck eye and fix it to the forward side of anchor locker bu...

Re: Mad or what....

Your list of problems with the boat and being out of the water for 5 years, it is far more than a general project boat. What is it worth in this condition? £1.00 at most. This boat is a breaker as the parts could be sold for more than the boat is worth in one piece. The amount to fix this boat will ...

Slightly off topic, but I have added a few photographs to my Ptotobucket link from my trip in 2017 to the Isles of Scilly. They should all be on the first page.

Re: GK24 decks.

Generally coach roof sides and the cockpit sides will be solid glass, elsewhere will be balsa cored except under fittings which will have plywood instead.
