Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Pleased to hear your daughter's improving - sorry you missed planned boat-time. Himself was out this afternoon doing some 'glassing' - getting rid of the old fuel filler from the cockpit floor and putting in some brackets in the cockpit locker for a shelf. Also refitted the refurbished, repaired and...

Re: Konsort Cushions

Well, we've kept it while dumping the rest! Just as well you have a Konsort if you're in the habit of adding to your family in twos ;) Congratulations and I hope the sleep deprivation doesn't last long. If nothing else, it's good training for one of those nights when the anchor refuses to hold ... n...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Himself nipped out to the boat in between storms and drilled out the rivets to detach the boarding ladder in order to repair other rivets on it. Will re-attach with bolts to make removal for future maintenance easier. Due to problems with a visiting otter which had a thing about winches and sheets, ...

Re: Konsort Cushions

Hello Konsortium, we've just acquired second-hand cushions for our Konsort (also working on a budget!!) and about to chuck the quarterberth one though it's still in perfectly useable condition if you don't mind orange/brown stripes. Unfortunately we're in the Hebrides, a long way from Kent. It could...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Just brought home the 'new' cushions bought from a Westerly owner, along with some carpet to replace the stripped-out headlining. When the storms stop we'll get out to rebed/replace fittings that are leaking then the fun starts. Can't be much worse than wallpapering ... I hope ;)

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

A beautiful day here yesterday and I've nearly finished stripping out the headlining. Himself was delighted to find that the wardrobe door he plans to recycle will close off the forecabin very nicely. Not sure what else he did but seemed busy while I was lying along the quarterberth trying not to ge...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Gave the lovely new material I found in a craft shop to a friend who can sew, along with one old curtain as a pattern. With new curtains, second-hand-but-better cushions and a great deal of elbow-grease still to come, she's going to look a lot more cared-for!

Re: Flavell Vanessa Gas Cooker

Ah, thanks! I'd have been looking in decorating as that's what meths is used for! We'll see if we can find some in Elgin!

Re: Pentland Saloon windows

As we're going to have to do at least the internal surrounds and seals on our Konsort, could you possibly give details here or point to a technical article? Has anyone else replaced Westerly portlights with modern opening ones?

Re: Flavell Vanessa Gas Cooker

Always plenty of tea and cake here and aboard! Our contact details are in the yearbook. Having spent yesterday afternoon/evening looking up prices of gas cookers, gas alarms, and thinking about the cost of having the gas system put back in, we're sticking with the Origo for the time being. Decided a...

Re: Flavell Vanessa Gas Cooker

Wow! I was told it was impossible to buy anything other than meths, except at great expense from the chemist. No idea B & Q did something suitable, not that we've one anywhere near us! Even if we do go with the gas, we'll be delighted to say hello to you in the Bay!

Re: Flavell Vanessa Gas Cooker

Just one more query: is it possible to fit replacement burner/control knob units to the old cooker so as to bring it up to the modern standard? Still cheaper than £450!

Re: Flavell Vanessa Gas Cooker

No you're not (MCP, that is) :D Very kind to give us so much info. Ideally I'd like a grill, too, but there's a lot to be said for a very basic cooker like our meths one in that I'm not expected to produce my usual standard of cooking when cruising! And, of course, any member of the crew can open a ...

Re: Flavell Vanessa Gas Cooker

Thanks for the explanation, nick. I am the missus, by the way - as well as 1st mate/occasional skipper! Looks like we wasted the money on the second-hand cooker then :( Which one have you seen for £400, and where? I suppose we'll just have to carry on with the meths 2 burner; himself can take me ou...
