New Centaur Forepeak

Having got a week off work i've pushed on with the new forecabin arrangement, in doing so found my boats had a proper smack in the bows, holed even although not too worried based on the lamination schedule outside but seem to be making some kind of progress towards a genuinely liveable cabin: So now...

Re: centaur keel bolt diagnosis

This is all very helpful. Are two strengtheners usually enough? Is there an ideal size? RB, I notice from your pics that you are have really honey-combed the area. Think two will be plenty but its entirely upto you, mine sailed as it turned out 12 years unstrengthened and a further 20 years with tw...

Re: centaur keel bolt diagnosis

Roger, Are you saying there were no transverse bulkheads originally? I have never found any before and after shots that show clearly what it was like. I need to have another look at your blog but I need time or that as one thing leads on to another. Yep they're weren't to begin with apart from wher...

Re: centaur keel bolt diagnosis

YD from the looks of it your keels have been reinforced as a transverse web is evident, (should be two in each keel stub) although i hadn't noticed the crack in the first pic, good call Derek. Might be worth having a poke with a screwdriver, from my own experience if the laminate breaks up easy arou...

Re: centaur keel bolt diagnosis

Hi YD, Looking at the 'tide' mark in the last picture it would suggest theres been water in there, is the boat in the water? If it is and they dont leak i'd leave them, if the boats on the hard and you dont know might be worth further investigation, must say they look in reasonable fettle although y...

Re: Centaur Water Tank

Hey Unc I'm gonna put a smaller water tank in there to supply the heads and additional capacity overall, i'm in the process of cutting the fibreglass base about to get the storage out of it, the front is massive but with the tinyest lid so will open that up. Also the plan is to permanantly fill in t...

Re: Centaur Water Tank

Does anyone know how to inspect the fresh water tank on a Westerly Centaur 1978. We have just bought the boat. (Blue Peter mode enabled) I do Mark, and its as simple as designing, building and then launching your very own missile..................at Russia - just think of the possibilities! For thi...

Re: Composite Centaur windows

Cheers guys Havent given it much thought although i may have my first campervan commission after taking the van in for a service the other day, everyone was very impressed apparently so much so the boss man asked me for some biz cards. Could have a biz opportunity with the boat stuff, although part ...

Re: Head and side linings

Just looked up what robbins elite cabin line is and got the wrong end of the stick although spacing the kerfs further apart would allow the ply to take the centaurs cabin roof easily, might have a play with that at some point as i wont be fitting vinyl.

Re: HEAD AND SIDE LININGS

Welcome aboard Mike! You'll find a plethora of information in these pages. To remove the glue and whats left of it I went with Auto Glym tar remover although other solvents like acetone have been used with success but need to ventilate the cabin at all times, if funds allow I'd put back something ot...
