Re: Centaur rubbing strake parting

Completely agree with chris, did exactly this on my mates griffon a year or too ago. The great plus of repairing the strake this way is the scarf joint is no longer under any tension infact i made both wedges slightly oversized (we're talking about a mil or so) and forced them into the birds mouth c...

Re: Westerly 25 Cabin Roof Damage

Hi Alex it sounds like the supports are coming away from the cabin roof, first things first i'd get the stick down so theres no more downward force on the structure then mask the interior/empty interior out to mitigate clean up and dust retrival then grind back those cracks to decent laminate. Then ...

Re: Deck bonding to hull

Yep, biscuit tin type effort, 2nd one in on the top row in the pbo article, instead of sealant westerly used on my centaur polyester filler which dries back and has started falling out in places where the two meet suffice to say i will be digging out all of it and re-sealing with appropriate marine ...

Re: Centaur Mast Support Problems

did mine last year, although my centaur looked like it had ply for reinforcing very darkly coloured wood, presumed it was gaboon-based ply from experience. anyways just replied to another chap asking a question regarding similar problems, below are pics of mine before i set to it with a router which...

Re: hull split near mast Centaur

I had similar problems to my mast step, no brown liquid but i have the feeling that yours has been repaired before to create the symptoms you have now. the reason i say this is when i took mine apart with a router its a good 10mm thick solid laminate with a core of gaboon ply thats over 12mm thick, ...

Re: Centaur keel strengthening

Cheers guys no worries, i'll start sorting out some ideas over the winter as to all the little projects i've undertaken, and all the blind alleys i've gone down in the process - i guess if it helps others save time and money learning from what i'm done its got to be worth it. When the boats done i'm...

Re: Centaur keel strengthening

Hello mike Below is a link to my photo album where you'll find loads of pictures of how i went about rebuilding the keel stubs on my 1971 centaur, to cut a long story short i ripped out all the bodged repairs with an air chisel and air saw then ground back to sound laminate in some places tissue pap...
