Re: Spinnaker rigging: Oceanlord

The Oceanmaster must have better stanchion Base mounting than the Konsort Mike. Mine were fitted using M6 bolts and nuts with small washers then the bolts were cropped close to the nuts. There was no backing material and the balsa core wasn't removed so the whole thing was a disaster waiting to happ...

Re: Konsort: Masthead Nav & Anchor lights

Mine were the dimpled festoon type I believe but I only had the anchor light and did away with that in favour of one hanging in the fore triangle going down to a socket at the Base of the mast. I feel that masthead anchor lights are too high up.

Re: Griffon: noise from prop rotation

If you race then when next dried out set the prop up and down so one of the blades is hidden behind the skeg and mark the shaft so you can set that position when sailing and reduce the drag.

I have to say I have no experience of them myself but have not heard anything bad about them.

Re: Fulmar genoa winches - possible weakness

Yep that is how it should have been done or a solid area should have been created where fittings were to be placed. Much easier when the deck moulding is upside down.

Re: Watermota Panther Ignition

Not true for all marine diesels as the Bukh motors have an electric stop solenoid activated by turning the key fully anticlockwise till the engine stops.

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.

Paul's dad, Ian setup xwrigging when he left Westerly where he was the rigger I believe. He also owned the company who made the furling systems who's name escapes me just now.

Re: Fulmar genoa winches - possible weakness

The coamings are solid on the Konsort as well but under the stanchion bases is cored. This causes problems if the are hit hard inwards as the triangular base with a long leaver can easily punch down through the upper skin and crush the balsa. Obviously if not sorted quickly you end up with wet core....

Re: MD2B turns over but won't start - fuel?

I wouldn't be too quick to dump the old fuel. If the filters have been changed and are clean then diesel goes on for ever or a long time anyway.

Re: Fulmar genoa winches - possible weakness

Well I am surprised, not. The surprising thing is you don't have balsa core there which had not been dealt with properly. Maybe time to check out more of your deck fittings...

Re: MD2B ENGINE OIL OVERFILL

Good to know it isn't water in the oil. My Bukh DV20 produces white vapour but only when hot and then only when the thermostat opens. This is just steam though.

Mike,

Is there any milky colour in the oil that would indicate water has got into It?

Re: Griffon anchor locker drainage

Probably into the bilge. There will be a hole in the bottom of the chain locker. God only knows why Westerly did that but then only they know why they did some of the other crazy things they did.
