Re: Prop size on Fulmar with a Volvo 2002 FW

As a guide, with the same engine but on a Storm, I bought a 17" by 14" 3 blade folding prop. But, you need to find out your gearbox ratio first. From memory, you can tell from the serial number on the gearbox. My memory is going, it may have been clear from this number but if not, supply the S/N to ...

15W/40 engine oil

Hi everyone.
I refill my Volvo 2002 with 15W/40 mineral oil each Autumn, CF spec.
In the car parts shop the other day, I could only find semi-synthetic oil with the right viscosity and specification. Anyone know whether or not using semi-synthetic oil is OK?
Thanks

Re: Spade anchor on Fulmar

Hi, I've been using my new Spade anchor this summer on my Storm- it's working brilliantly. I've been keeping it under the forecabin bunk, but I now want to "promote" it to prime position on the anchor roller, in place of the original CQR. I'm interested in your stowage solution - can you please send...

HI, I bought a 3-blade Varifold from Bruntons 2 years ago: am very pleased with it. Performance under power has also greatly improved.

Re: Storm Sail set up for a Storm

Hi there. The U bolt on the foredeck is only for attachment of the spinnaker downhaul. I don't think you should be using it for attaching your inner forestay because it is nowhere near strong enough. I looked into this 3 years ago. I was advised by a rigging firm that I would have to build a strong ...

Re: Ocean 33 starting problems

HI, I had similar problems with a Volvo 2002 in a Storm. I tested for voltage drop in the starter motor circuit when cranking; eg +ve terminal of battery to solenoid, across the solenoid, etc. Full procedure is in Nigel Calder's Mechanical/Electrical Manual. In my case everything was fine so I then ...

Re: new generation anchors

I've bought a Spade, having concluded that the point of the anchor will be 2 or 3 inches further away from my lovely gelcoat than would have been the case with a Rocna.
It was expensive so I hope I'm right!

oil pressure alarm Volvo 2002

After running engine for at least 30 mins under load and throttling back to neutral or one click ahead, the oil pressure light starts flashing and the alarm beeps. It stops with more throttle. Does anyone have any experience of this problem? The engine doesn't consume oil and no other problems are a...

Re: VP2002 starting problems

I had the same problem of slow starting on a 2002. Found out that starter motor was suffering from corrosion and the magnets inside were broken.... Had it rebuilt and it now starts quickly, though usually need the cold start procedure. Cost was about £180, so my advice would be to check the voltage...

Re: Storm Ballast/Heel

Hi, all Storms list to starboard...it's what they do! I guess you can blame it on the fuel tank/batteries/all the stuff in the cockpit locker. Though last winter, I had a good look at the hull and convinced myself that there is a slight asymmetry under the water. I've heard of one Storm owner glassi...

new generation anchors

HI all, I'm thinking of buying a 10kg Rocna, Spade or Manson Supreme as a second anchor for a Storm. I don't want to modify the bow roller if possible. I think the Rocna will be a tight fit; ie the tip will be extremely close to the hull when stowed and very likely to bash it when pulling it up. Any...
