Re: Centaur Bilge Keel Strengthening

Hi Gavin.

See you are in Poole as well. Who and where is your boat? Come and have a look at my bolts anytime...can compare notes.

Incidentally, I think we'd all like a friend who's a GRP specialist!

Re: Centaur Carpet

I can confirm that suggestion. A tenner should do it (with spare). So off to your local carpet store and go through the offcuts! Usually a good choice of finishes and colours. If after a while you don't like it, it's no great deal to change it.

Re: Centaur Kicker

Would have had one originally. Possibly left off at some time to save fiddling with it. Acts to prevent the boom "kicking up", so allowing the main to take less strain and do its job of positioning the boom laterally rather than vertically. You probably have a boom which rotates to shorten the sail ...

Re: Anchor and bow roller

Bow roller must be the best place for it, for reasons of rapid deployment alone. Wish I could do that but my Centaur has only one roller. The CQR sits neatly in place on the foredeck with shank and flukes in chocks, but hefting it into action can be a pain (literally!).

Trafalgar Yacht Services seem to have an assortment. See:

or give Caroline a call on 01329 823577.

Good hunting.

Where are you?

Four months since a post on this site so I thought I'd break the ice! Wouldn't it be helpful if Users were encouraged to give their location details (and boat name?) in their profile? Seems to me it would be useful to know when responding to queries whether one is close enough to physically assist. ...

Re: Attaching Dodgers

If you do decide to lace your dodgers make sure you get enough line. I've just done mine on my Centaur and it took 13 metres. Not bad for dodgers only 2 metres long. As someone once said...."you can never have too much string on a boat"!

Re: Water under floor boards Centaur

Further to my previous post about splitting water filters. Fitted filter this PM ready for season. Switched on pump to get water circulating, taps OK, filter OK. Unfortunately when taps turned off......pump didn't! Water spewing out from the pump casing! Maybe pressure switch defunct or seals knacke...

Re: Water under floor boards Centaur

I suffered similar anguish year before last. If you have an in-line water filter, Whale Aquasource type, it is recommended they be removed over winter. If not they are liable to freeze and crack, just like pipes at home. Mine did, but as the crack was on the underside it took ages to cotton on to wh...

Re: Centaur Purchase - Have I done good?

Welcome to the club! With over 2400 boats made and sold it just goes to show what a fine boat the Centaur was when it was first made and continues to be to this day. Are you a member of the WOA yet? One of the benefits of the subscription is discount with Navigators and General Insurance (covered my...

Re: Griffon Repower

Looks like you need a three sided coin to toss, or choose the colour you like best. Decisions have been based on lesser parameters. Seriously though, I'm a happy Beta 20 owner but with no experience off the other two options. Hope you get sorted in time for the season.

Re: Sailing The Solent

Hi Robert. I go along with what Aquaplane has written. I sail my Centaur out of Poole, which is just west of the Solent, and would be only too happy to have you join me for a few days in and around the area. With any luck you may get further offers from other owners. You could end up with an extende...
