Re: Konsort Anchor Chain

Note Bert's comment. Irrespective of boat length, the amount of chain you need on board for safe anchoring depends on the maximum depth you feel you are likely to encounter (and allowing for the unexpected!). If you are using all chain, then 25 metres would only be suitable for up to 6.25 metre dept...

Nicely put Bob.

Perhaps the heading "General chat" is too vague to attract attention. "Safety" might be a useful category.....unambiguous.

Re: Merlin life raft location

Hi. I'm not a Merlin owner either, but recently had to decide where to put a canister life raft on my Centaur. It seems to be a question that comes up from time to time. May get shot down in flames for saying this, but the chandler was perhaps being a bit of purist. Of course it is heavy and the roo...

Re: Fluctuating water temperature on a MD11C

You've opened the floodgates now 'Shredder'! There's a lot of Westerly owners in Poole harbour that may take that as an open invitation! Just happen to be passing by tomorrow in fact.

Re: 5 - 7 day weather/sailing forecast

Hi. This is the Met Office site I use for Poole and have bookmarked on my computer. It's updated every couple of hours. You can select very local data for your own area.

Re: Cabin floor

Not a silly question! Unintended holes in the hull while afloat can absolutely ruin what otherwise might have been a perfect day. The cabin floor is not very thick maybe <4mm. But there is also very little space between that and the hull, certainly on my Centaur where "inspection hatches " are alrea...

Updating charts

In this months 'Sailing Today' the editor, Jake Frith, comments in a book review that just about the only people he has seen updating charts are, ".....odd elderly and overcautious Westerly owner(s)". OK, so we are all Westerly owners, some not in the flush of youth and maybe some with personal quir...

Re: Westerly Warwick Spray Hood

Hi Roger. Welcome to the Westerlys. You don't indicate where you are located, but if you are anywhere near Poole I can thoroughly recommend Cut 'n' Cover. Wayne would not make up a hood from existing pattern but measured up and produced a perfect fit for my Centaur (for quite a bit less than £500)....

Re: New here. I just bought this boat....

Hi Rick. What damn bad luck. Sorry to hear you won't be joining the happy band of Westerly owners just yet. I hope things get sorted to you satisfaction. Do keep logging on to this forum as there are quite a few WOA members in the US, so someone may notice your plight! Who knows, there may be a suit...

Re: Centaur Jack Lines

Hi. There are many ways to fit jack lines. Mine are fitted to eyebolts on the coachroof, and others may come up with alternative solutions. They are available ready-made at any good chandlers; pop in, or see magazines or go on-line. Tethers, or lifelines, are also readily available from the same sou...

Whoops! In my haste to be helpful it failed to register that my furling gear is Rotostay not Furlex! Sorry about that.

Anyone else out there who can assist?

Think my manual is on the boat. I'll look tomorrow. If no-one else comes up with one I'll copy and send to you as an attached PDF file.

Re: heading to UK from USA - need info

Hi. Hope you are getting replies via email. My first advice would be to allow plenty of time! you are sure to want lots of overnight stops and time ashore particularly if this is your first visit over here. My Centaur is in Poole harbour and I'd be pleased to meet up with you as Poole is likely to b...
