Re: Keel Sealant

I think a lot of us will be grateful for this thread as we decide whether of not to refurbish our keels this winter. Many thanks.

"a bit too 1970's but certainly bright enough."

Just right for going retro in a Centaur then!

Re: swinging mooring

That's OK. I suspect we were all thinking the same, "what would we do?"! So far the only time I've returned to see someone on my mooring the boat was occupied. They were only using it as a temporary convenience to save dropping their hook, and moved away. No problem.

Me too.

Interesting that they did not ask (at this stage) how much one would be prepared to pay for weather data and forecasts!

Getting cynical!

Re: Westerly Centuar starter motor

Don't know about the starter motor I'm afraid. As to the saloon bilge, my Centaur has a hole very low down in the bulkhead leading into the engine compartment bilge where the pump is. This is stopped up with a cork, I assume to prevent potential backwash into the saloon. Maybe you have similar or a ...

Re: Sumlog impeller

Hi. It's not really too difficult. Not actually necessary to remove the outer cable at the hull end. I used this advice picked up from some post way back on this forum: SUMLOG CABLE REPAIR Hi, I did the inner cable on my Konsort last year as it was siezed in the centre to the outer cable, with hinds...

Re: volvo penta md2b broken

Martin. A brand new Beta 20 installation with all new running/cooling/exhaust gear should set you back about £6,500 if done by a professional installer. It may be almost as much as your boat cost, but question you want to be a sailor or a mechanic? I've been through it! Happy to email o...

Re: Centaur sleeping arrangements

Why stick to the saloon? The forecabin offers width and length (narrows a bit toward the chain locker), and can be closed off with bedding in situ leaving the saloon free.

Further update.

Just received my renewal notice from Navigators & General; £131.84.

So one gets some good news occasionally!

Re: What are these for?

Isn't this what sailing is all about? Having things lurking in dark damp places on board the boat with several previous owners, who kept things BECAUSE THEY MAY COME IN USEFUL SOMEDAY. At least yours look reasonably modern , unlike some oxidised and fossilised junk I've seen in some boats I've been ...

Rotostay FS 40 1988 version.

If anyone needs the fitting/assembly instructions for a Rotostay FS 40 or 50 (easily lost after all these years!) I can email a PDF copy. Glad the previous owners of my Centaur weren't in the habit of throwing things out!

First of all, welcome to Centaur ownership Frank. Let's hope the renovation project is not too onerous, and you can get out on the water ASAP (weather permitting!). In my experience, saloon table and other horizontal surfaces such as sink/cooker surround and cockpit seats are level and true. The dec...

It's all on page 12 of the Beta Marine Operators Maintenance Manual, which should be with the boat/engine as it carries the service record. I'll copy and email it to you if you are without it.

Re: How to finish exterior woodwork?

You've all made me feel guilty now! I just slap some danish oil on at beginning and end of season. Do I actually like the look of grey weathered hardwood, or is it an excuse for laziness?!
