Re: tablet plotter app and other apps

I liked the 'Boatie' app too, so loaded it on my phone, but then found that the 'compass' does not work, and I couldn't access the menu. Boatie were very helpful and told me that my phone ( HTC ) has neither a compass in the hardware, or a facility for the menu button. I've been refunded, but will r...

Harken backstay adjuster....probably stolen

Just a heads up. I took my Harken backstay adjuster off our Corsair ( Sovereign Flame ) and sent it to Harken for service. Unfortunately, between NE Hants and Lymington it has disappeared and the courier ( Hermes ) has invited me to make a claim as they are 'unable to locate your package'. Their max...

Re: Winter my Konsort

I suppose we all have different ideas, and routines for winterisation. We normally empty water tanks completely only every few years and then remove the debris, residue that is normally present in the tanks. Most winters we've run the water level down during September and October, but then leave all...

Bird scarers

This year we have cleared up more birds mess than any other year. We've used old cds,and other deterrents but I am thinking of buying a proper scarer. There's a lot on the market both wind and power driven and I would appreciate any ideas and comments on what works. Our boat is in Chichester harbour...

Re: Merlin main hatch security

We have installed the same lock as Nigel...it's a little fiddly to instal but is a significant deterrent. They used to be called 'Moody locks'...it may be worth speaking to someone at Swanwick Marina ( where they used to make/sell Moodys ) who may still have one or two arround.

Re: Headlining painted - still tacky!

Hello Steve, When we replaced headlining last winter Hawke House recommended using 'Autoglym' tar remover when trying to remove excess glue. It worked really well, and unlike acetone or other solvents it does not damage the headliner or leave dull patches.

Re: Volvo Penta Tachometer

Hello,
The same thing happened on the tachometer on our VP 2003 when we had a new alternator fitted. It turned out that a ( quite inaccessible ) fuse was the culprit, so you may want to have it checked before replacing.
Good luck

A cautionary tale about anchor swivels

A few weeks ago we were anchored in Newtown, in Clamerkin Lake prior to crossing the channel to Cherbourg. To catch the tide through the Needles we had an 0330 alarm set, and late in the evening we decided to pick up a visitors buoy rather than haul in 15 metres of ( muddy ) chain and anchor at that...

Simrad chart plotter service

Does anyone know where I can have my Simrad CP32 Chart plotter fitted with a new memory battery, and the 'power' button connections checked( which I have to hold down for ages before it turns on ). I have been on Simrads website, and sent an email, and left a phone message, but after a week I've had...

Re: Storm engine stop cable

I'm assuming you're talking about the inner wire core here.Mine broke at the engine end also midway through last season and I reconnected it using a stripped down 'chocolate box' connector. It worked OK, but pulled apart a couple of times. We've just replaced ours ( Corsair ) and it was the shorter ...

Re: Cleaning the heads.

Yes, we've used standard malt vinegar as well. It works, and you can buy big bottles very cheaply (white vinegar very, very cheap in France ). We prefer the white vinegar just to avoid any chance of a stain from the malt.
