Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

Welcome to the WOA, the world of the friendly owners. If as you say you are travelling across the country and find yourself in Essex give me a shout I'll take you out on a Centaur for a couple of hours on the tide, (weather and tides permitting of course) Uncle Albert. (You will understand why if yo...

Re: HEAD AND SIDE LININGS

Never have any issue with my cheap as chips ( Carpet Right) ribbed carpet used for lining both quarter berths on my Centaur. Its not foamed backed but has what looks like Fibre glass (1) but is clearly some polypropylene type stuff, warm to the touch so very comfortable in a sleeping area and glued ...

Re: Konsort Cushions

I used these people for my Centaur interior. As I remember (well it was some 5 years ago) I had two replacement/new foams and all 10 pieces of soft items (cushions, backrests and berths) recovered including stockinette backing/lining in a water resistant velvety type material for about £1,300.00. T...

Re: Davits on centaur.

With a rubber I have done it this way which works ok as long as it is clear of the exhaust. The dinghy is supported by ropes going around the dinghy hull and suspended from the pushpit rail. Picture would be good here if only I could!!! (struggling to understand how to up load photos as mine all see...

Re: engine

My Centaur has its original MD11C within which, 2 years ago, I replaced the pistons, rings and Cylinder liner. You can see the reason why on the WOA thread here http://www.westerly-owners.co.uk/woaforum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2244 Titled Volvo Penta MD11C Lots of Water in the Oil How ? Once you get use...

Re: Centaur Water Tank

This might sound facetious but it's not intended. Fill it with water (perhaps with food dye added) and see if any comes out. The water tank in a Centaur is not extractable without carving up the boat and probably affecting vessel strength integrity. On mine, after giving it as much purificati...

Re: Centaur Engine Compartment, help required.

Hi Roger just a thought given the level of rebuilding you are doing and quality of craftsmenship you achieve. Don't forget the engine needs to breath. Air needs to get in there. I have absolutely no idea how the air gets into my engine bay but the old original MD2C does not get starved when in use. ...

Re: Trying to track down a GK29 in the USA

Hi Philip, yeah that link refers to me when I updated my radio details when I acquired CR1702. Your post has made me revisit some correspondence I have had with an aged chap who was a sailing partner of the first owner of my boat and on re-reading it I see that the name of the GK29 was probably 'Ari...

Trying to track down a GK29 in the USA

In 2008 I bought my Centaur 'Aries of Lincoln' CR1702. The history that came with it interested me and I pursued the history of its first owner and recorded same in an article which was published in the Westerly magazine of Winter 2012. I subsequently met the initial owners daughter and had sight of...

Re: Carpet tiles for quarterberths?

I relined my q'berths using some really cheap corduroy(!) ribbed carpet in a fetching shade of beige (from Carpet Right), It had a synthetic backing rather than rubber and was easy to cut a shape around curves. Also being relatively thin it was easy to encourage round tighter corners too. Once all t...

Re: My first sail on Concerto with an unexpected ending

Glad your getting the pontoon 'all safe'.
Been looking at Google Earth and see that there is a pontoon in the river which seems to link into the dockyard. Do you know if that would be an opportunity to lay over for a day whilst visiting?

Re: My first sail on Concerto with an unexpected ending

I have followed your restoration of Concerto. Your first exploit was a like the curates egg then!!! So pleased that the hard work you have put in getting Concerto 'good and proper' resulted in a memorable first sail. Given that you have had such a shock you will not make the same error again. Steep ...
