Re: Hello from new member.

I doubt that you are buying it as ...................an investment. Surely you are buying it for enjoyment !!!! As has been said the layup on Westerlies is really substantial and therefore unlikely to be a safety liability. If the rest of it is up together, and there is no readily identifiable big c...

But I will 'Janet and John' describe my starting procedure (first start from cold) and this may help. Open water inlet for engine Switch batteries to chosen one Set throttl...

Re: Hi from New Owner/Engine advice?

Welcome to the WOA forum. There are too many MD2B/C beliefs that to have these engines means that we are 'All doomed'. :? I maybe in a minority of 1 but I am a member of the MD2 appreciation society :D . Having achieved intimate first hand knowledge of its innards by replacing cylinder liners and pi...

Re: Hello from a new Centaur owner.

Re the tacking of genoa. There are some plastic wheels (Google, sail chafe protector) which clip onto the baby stay which assist in the 'flow of the sail over the stay. They tend to last only a season or so but I believe that the do help and are worth while.

Re: Centaur Water Tank

Many thanks for posting those pics Roger. Its nice to see what I am NOT going to do to remedy mine. :) It leaks a bit (a couple of spongefuls) when beating hard to windward on (probably) one of the tacks, (nope dont know which tack). I try not to full more than half full to limit the amount which ca...

Yep done that, but only once.

You will only do that once, I assure you.

The phrase 'Learn by your mistakes' comes to mind

Re: centaur md2b gear box

There is a chap in my club who has had similar issues with Volvo G box. His is the one which is lubricated by the engine as supplied from the engine sump (rather than the separate oil supply as in my MD2C, which has a separate oil supply in the gearbox). Its a long story of dismantling replacing spr...

Re: Hull stain removal - if y10 doesn't work what next?

Oxalic Acid is my way of getting nicotine coloured hull straining back to white. Mix a couple of teaspoons of Oxalic powder in a milk carton then decant into a kitchen surface spray bottle which the provides control of its distribution. Leave for about 45 seconds and rinse off using a sponge. Hey pr...

My Centaur (1702) only has one (square) port light. I think it was 'an option' when ordering.

Re: MD2B - injector pump problem?

You seem to be in the same position that I was. I went through the 'where is the water coming from' process and came to the following conclusions as to possible ways it can get into the oil:- 1. Water pump seal 2. head gasket 3. liner and its seals. there is no other way the wet stuff can get in. So...

Re: What a blast, sailing Concerto to Burnham and back

Well done Roger. I wish some of our club members could do a write up like yours for our Club newsletter. Will be doing the similar route (again) for the WOA Medway rally later in August. Here's hoping for the wind to have a bit of north in it to limit the wind over tide lumpiness up the Swin channel...

Re: Westlery 25 - Various Holes

The hole on the transom port side looks like it may be a gas bottle storage locker drain and the one on the center line is possibly the cockpit drain to let (mostly) rain water out. As afar as the bilge outlet it looks to be the same design as a deck water tank filling fitting. You might get lucky a...

Re: MD2B - injector pump problem?

Just seen your latest entry which crossed with mine. If the oil is grey then certainly there is water in it. I thought I had a head gasket gone but found out (luckily ( ) just before putting it all back together that it was a pinhole in the cylinder liner requiring new liners/pistons . Hope i...

Re: MD2B - injector pump problem?

If you do go down the head Gasket route. Opt for the full gasket set it worked out cheaper than buying individual parts. I got a fair deal for many parts for my MD2 from Volspec in Tollesbury. (No connection other than spent lots of money with them a couple of years ago :? . new pistons liners and s...
