Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

Eeehh.., this is the kind of thing one likes to hear. Even though the Spring(?) has now come (we've waited all Winter), our only problem will be getting out on the water enough, 'cause it'll be dependent on the tides and the Welsh weather (if good weather and the tides can correspond!).

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

Oooh.., a bit of a hike for us here near Aberystwyth. But thanks very much, all the same! Anyway, I don't know what the weather's like down your way, but we've had ex-Ophelia and tomorrow is supposed to be another very windy and wet day!

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

"the two best days in boat ownership are the day you buy, closely followed by the day you finally sell."

Fair point!

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

Hello Hillary Thanks for the offer of taking us out, are you based in Wales? If so, that would be great, but I'm off (tomorrow) to Nottingham for the middle of this month and as you say, your boat will be out of the water by the end of October? A late October sailing would be fine with us but we do ...

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

That's an interesting observation about the landbased day skipper course. I like it! So saying that, I think our course of action will be: 1) Join the local club. 2) Get experience with club members (we'll then know if we want to go through with all of this after all!). 3) Meanwhile, hunt for boat w...

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

We, like the OPs, are complete novices and I'm 65 going on 66 while my wife's 60. We think that getting help through the club would be the best option for us followed by one of us (probably me?) doing the day skipper course/courses. We also like what someone else has suggested, and that's to find an...

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

Now.., I responded to this BillGr, but somehow it didn't get posted, so if in the end it does, excuse me for the double posting. Anyway, we live near Aberystwyth, and since moorings are like hen's teeth in Aber, and the Marina is tres expensive, we're looking at joining the Aber Teifi Boating Club d...

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

We're in Wales near Aberystwyth. The local training centre in New Quay can't guarantee keel boat training (lack of access to a suitable boat) so we plan to join the Aber Teifi Boating Club (Cardigan) by Christmas time, for the New Year. There are also good moorings there in the estuary. Since many p...

Re: Struggling to Learn how to sail!

Hello All, I appreciate that this is a very old thread, but my wife and I are in an exactly similar situation to Gary & Dawn when they started this thread, so if they see this, or if anyone knows them, how did you/they get on in finding lessons or an instructor to teach them to sale. By the way, and...
