Re: Wind generator on a Berwick

I looked up the cable spec for the Rutland 913 and up to 20m, 2.5 mm is quoted, so you will be in good shape with 4mm. The e-bay link was just over £10 for two 5m lengths. Good luck.

Re: Wind generator on a Berwick

I don't have a link for the cable I bought but search 4mm (or 6mm) solar cable on e-bay and select length. Without prejudice I found this for 5m of 4mm http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Solar-Panel-PV-Cable-with-MC4-Connector-Plugs-Pre-Crimped-TUV-double-insulated/232478987279?hash=item3620d3d40f:m:m4_j1M__...

In case you don't have it, this link will take you to the shop manual, where the torque settings are listed.

Re: Wind generator on a Berwick

Luckily we live in the age of solar power and "good thick" cable is available more readily. Normal domestic or industrial cable is not tinned or very flexible and does not enjoy the marine environment. I was able to buy 5 metro lengths of 4 mm cable tinned and flexible via e-bay, which I used for so...

Re: Buhk DV 20 Fly Wheel Sheared Off

Could be a balance problem if you reinstated the flywheel in a different position. I hope you made some alignment marks to guard against this. If there is no sign of corrosion or fatigue on the sheared bolts, I would guess you have done some damage. If you made a direct water connection to the pump ...

Re: Marine Surveyor Recommendations?

I used Nick Vass for my purchase survey on the basis that he has good knowledge of the Westerly range. I was very pleased and he has subsequently provided nuggets of pertinent Westerly focussed advice.

Re: Whitlock wheel steering

Many thanks to you both, you prove the value of the forum. It would be nice to see you in Milford Haven as well and exchange notes. A few weeks ago I met with Big Andy who also has a Corsair in the area. It was fun and we both gained from the experience.

Whitlock wheel steering

The wheel steering on my Corsair has been quite stiff, since I took possession a couple of years ago, though has improved with use. I have greased the cables and lubricated extensively. The quadrant is free when disconnected and the auto helm servo is also free. I have been told and it seems likely ...

Chain Locker Limber Hole

This was my first season with my new (to me) Westerley Corsair. I was quite surprised to find that after some anchor action the chain locker accumulates quite a lot of water. On inspection, I see there is no limber hole to drain it, which I thought quite odd. Is this normal for the type? I replaced ...

Corsair re-engine

My Corsair has the original Volvo 2003 engine 1984 vintage; I am considering replacement and would like to hear from others who may have already gone that route with any advice on choice and problems encountered.

Re: Corsair/Oceanranger -location for fluxgate compass

I have a 1984 Corsair with an Autohelm 6000. The compass is sited at the forward edge of the saloon table about 300mm up from the cabin sole. Guidance in the manual suggests the optimum site is at the pitch and roll centre (which it suggests is in the middle of the vessel near the waterline), and aw...
