Re: Prop for Beta25 on Konsort
Thanks for the reply - I will contact a prop specialist as you suggest. It is important I get maximum thrust, as the approach to my berth has a tide up to 5Kn at springs with a low bridge about 200m upstream! - for this reason I am reluctant to look at a folding prop as I suspect there will be a sma...

Prop for Beta25 on Konsort
I have just replaced the Bukh engine on my Konsort with a new Beta 25 with 2:1 gearbox. Does anyone have any experience of fixed 3 blade propellors with this combination. The engine will currently only achieve 2200 rpm and is then labouring and pushes the dipstick up in its tube, releasing fumes int...

Re: Bukh DV20 Vacuum valve
Problem solved - cleaned vacuum valve with "Carburettor Cleaner" spray, valve then heard to move much more easily. There is now negative pressure in rocker cover, but to see, the paper must be in contact with oil filler opening before releasing it. Warning - only use "carburettor clea...

Re: Getting disabled aboard
Thank you Mike - the climbing gear shop is I great idea - I will investigate. Its only at a home pontoon as we can only Day Sail because the only pontoon mooring within 1 day is at Wells-next-the-sea. I asked the harbourmaster if it would be possible to book in advance, as there is no way Edwina cou...

Re: Getting disabled aboard
Thank you for all the useful replies. My wife is determined not to give up sailing, and has been encouraged by the positive replies. I am 73 and she is 69, but there is life in us yet. Now you have confirmed that the boom/bosuns chair approach is possible, we shall try that and other ideas this summ...

Getting disabled aboard
Help and advice needed, after many years of sailing, my wife is now disabled. I have been able to arrange a system to get her from cockpit to saloon on our Konsort, but from the pontoon mooring to the cockpit is more difficult. I have toyed with the idea of a bosuns chair hung from the boom, but I a...

Re: Bukh DV20 Vacuum valve
Thanks Philip, I already have the DV20 workshop manual, and although its mechanical details are described, there is nothing about negative pressure in the rocker cover. Its a lovely engine, and I want to keep it running as long as possible and therefore want to keep everything running perfectly so w...

Re: Bukh DV20 Vacuum valve
Oh dear, looks like no-one knows the answer! I wonder if someone running a Bukh DV20 could find the time to remove the oil filler plug when the engine is running and check whether there is air flow in or air flow out? (i.e. if a sheet of paper sticks lightly to the opening). Would be useful to know,...

Re: Realistic value of a 1985 Konsort
I bought a good 1983 Konsort in UK - sail no 510 (only needed a few jobs + a new spray hood ) in August 2016 and paid £12500 for it if thats any help.

Bukh DV20 Vacuum valve
Some of the literature I have on the Bukh DV20 states that if the vacuum valve under the rocker cover is working properly, there should be a slight negative pressure in the rocker cover when the engine is running (they say sufficient to hold a sheet of paper against the filler opening with the plug ...
