Re: Winter lift out for a Pageant

My Centaur gets two large lumps of timber (square pile sections) running the length of the keels (thick to get s bit more clearance under the hull for anti-fouling etc), a prop at the front and one on each stern quarter. She is on a good hard standing for this. Given they are happy to dry out natura...

Re: tracing the history of my centaur Boukadoura 2

Hi Albert, Your SOU number looks like a hull number, rather than a yard number. Depending on her age, it may be stamped onto the port transom (just below the rubbing strake). It should have a / and then two more numbers, indicating the year the hull was built. The Yard number should be on a screw on...

Re: Recommendations for GPSApps

I’ve used the Navionics Boating app (on iPad) for a couple of coastal passages. I have not paid for a full subscription set of charts yet, but will do when I start going further afield.

If you only want lat and long, the compass app on iPhone has that covered.

Interested to know others experiences.

Re: Mad or what....

Is it in mast or is it the handle for the original roller boom furling? If the latter, ignore the handle and you have conventional slab as an option. Check the gooseneck fittings on the mast are still good. Check the book end tang is not too worn. You would need to add a conventional kicker if it ha...

Re: Westerley Centaur renovate or not?

Having just got a quote for a new engine (and all associated parts to be fitted) of £6500, there is a starting shot. Look at the keels (rebedding)/keel bolts/reinforcing the inside braces. (Not had to on mine.) Look at standing rigging and furler gear for headsail. Approx £650 for standing rigging, ...

Re: ASAP Supplies offering WOA 10% Discount until end July

RYA membership also gets a discount. From a quick look RYA seems to get approx 15%, but it varies by item. To get the RYA discount, you need to email ASAP with your RYA membership number and they add it to your account.

Re: Replacement engine for Centaur

I got my first quote for a new Beta 20 (and all the associated bits - prop, shaft, cutlass, new exhaust, control cables etc etc). £5k covers the parts, but not labour... Intestingly they are recommending a 13 x 9 three blade prop. Less pitch than yours chrisbarton (for same size engine and approx hu...

Re: new Beta engine on a Griffon

Chris,

Good luck tracking down the cause. A bit of a worry. Which prop did you go for? I would imagine I will be needing similar (or not) when I re-engine my Centaur.

Interested to hear how you resolve this (or at least track down the cause, which must be prop related).

Good luck,

Will

Re: Replacement engine for Centaur

Mike and others,

When changing engines, have you found that replacement engines need a bit more cooling water flow - a larger through hull/seacock than the 1/2” original fitting on the Centaur?

Thanks again for the useful info to date, and time estimates!

Re: Replacement engine for Centaur

Thanks Mike and @Jolly roger. Good to have a number in mind... Mike - do you find access (impeller, filters, etc) easy with the Beta 20? Which controls and gearbox did you go for - if I follow, there look to be quite a few options! I assume you fitted it yourself? Did the cutlass also get changed? H...

Replacement engine for Centaur

The MD11C in m Centaur is on its last legs. Block corrosion, poor water flow through the cooling channels, oil burner, etc etc... So, in prep for the big spend at some stage in the next year or two, looking for recommendations on replacement engines. I haven't done any research so far, but Beta seem...

Re: MD11C Thermostat housing seals

If AsAP doesn’t work, go to your local Volvo parts dealer and negotiate - if Golden Arrow can do it for that price, your local one should too... good luck.

Re: MD11C Thermostat housing seals

Without wanting to suggest the obvious, how about your friendly Volvo Penta dealership... Part number from the Volvo parts catalogue. (The following may help, even if the dealer is not your local one). For less than the price of a coffee, probably worth it for a good seal. https://www.volvopentashop...
