Re: What to look for - Centaur

The engine isn't that much of a big deal. The old ones do last a long time. I would worry about the keels and there water tightness, the standing rigging, osmosis and the condition of all of the main bulk heads I.e no rot and no delamination of the fiberglass matting. Re: RE: Re: 2 blade or 3 blade prop?

No doubt I am wrong, but I though only the last few Centaurs had a small half skeg. Mine for 1976 does not have a skeg at all. I'm not sure about that. Have you got a p bracket then? All the centaurs at the quay have skegs and they range in age from near the start to one of the last one built. One ...

Re: RE: Re: Pss shaft seal water lubrication?

I fitted a PSS last year. My understanding is it just needs venting above the waterline. Do not underestimate where the waterline is like I did :-( I'm waiting on a response from pss manufacturers as I have heard that at hi revolution the propshaft can act as a pump, pumping water up the sterntube ...

Pss shaft seal water lubrication?

Hi all, I am fitting a pss shaft seal to my centaur and there seams to be two ways of lubricating the seal. One is to take of a 8mm pipe from the Raw water cooling system just after it comes out of the heat exchanger and the other is just to vent the seal. Has any one got one and how have you lubric...

Re: RE: Re: 2 blade or 3 blade prop?

I'd be interested in this too - I'm having a Vetus 18 in my Centaur. Mechanic says I don't need a new prop but I'd be surprised if the new engine goes round the same way as the old MD2b. I spoke to the westerly chaps in Fareham and they said that a 2 blade prop will make no difference to the sailin...

Re: roller furling jib tangled problem

Hi on my centaur, when I first purchased it, I found the previous owner had the same problem. I looked at it and it seemed rather simple to me but can't really tell from the photos. I have a swivel at the top of my roller reefing which the Uphall and the genia is cliped onto. The uphaul is fed throu...

Re: Centaur -water under engine?

Have a look at the control/throttle lever. Make sure it's well sealed as this obviously gets moved and it some times works it's self loose. Also check the emergence bilge pump for water tightness otherwise it's the cockpit floor or rear locker. Make sure you reseal one thing at a time as so you know...

Re: Fuel tank return fuel pipe fitting!

Thanks mikebuggy,

Thought the water separator wouldn't work. Just need to figure out how to get a fitting onto the stainless steel tank preferably without moving it.

Fuel tank return fuel pipe fitting!

Hi, I have a centaur and I am fitting a beta 20 to her at the moment. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160117/9a7c93132907a7a10095f6c31fa785af.jpg The problem I have just realised is there is no fitting on the tank for the return fuel pipe on the tank. I have installed a bulkhead infront of the fue...
