Re: Corsair Anchor Locker Alteration.

I have a similar problem with chain piling up. On my ever increasing list of jobs to do is to try introducing a ‘cone’ of some description under the chain inlet, this I read somewhere will encourage/displace the chain to the sides. Makes sense in theory....

Testing through hull fittings

Hi, I’ve recently replaced some seacocks and skin fittings on my boat and would like to know that I’ve achieved a 100%seal before lifting in. I’m thinking of pushing a pipe up against the hull (around the fitting) and filling to a couple of meters to impose a hydrostatic head. I have other more time...

Spinnaker pole and downhaul on Corsair

Hi, for a while now I've been deliberating on how the pole downhaul should be rigged on my Corsair II. I don't think that the spinnaker was we ever used by the previous owner/s. All the controls lead back to the cockpit including reefing and all deck organisers are used. I'd be interested to see how...

Re: Westerly Internal Varnish

Hi, I'm told that the Morelos 440 is spray on only, is this the case?

Re: Advice on the process for renewing rubber window seals

Hi, further to my thread above I've done little other than find enough gasket to do all the windows on the boat (this was found in a locker and little attention had been paid to it during the sale!) and a little more research. I contacted a couple of people on here and got extra information. If you ...

Re: Calibrate speed log on land

Hi Waka Tiki, thanks for the response, appreciated. The issue I had was that the log would read zero whether running with the tide at 7kts over or sailing into a tide at 3kts over ground, which made me think I might have an issue.
Jolly Roger, will have to use your method on slack water.

Cheers all

Calibrate speed log on land

Last season I noticed that there was a definite (incorrect) difference between my speed through the water and that displayed by my gps. on inspection the log was heavily fouled (as was the whole hull!!) and I put the differences down to that effect. since hauling out I have cleaned the log and it ap...

Portlight leak

Hi, I've recently removed the headlining in the aft cabin and heads on my corsair mk2. In doing so have discovered a leak on the deck hatch from the cabin (which I have in hand) and another seepage under the heads portlight. I noticed the latter earlier today in biblical rain so have not investigate...

Keel wired to anode?

Hi I was working through checking continuity between the anode on my corsair II and a few questions came up. Currently the auto helm, engine and what I believe to be the unit that houses the cutlass bearing are all connected to the anode. There was a further wire that stopped (unconnected) under the...

Re: oil change questions

Many thanks all, as guessed, oil change is the answer. I bought the oil last week but before I change it I was interested in the different types. 15w40 car mineral oil is what I've bought, is that suitable. the mechanic who did some work last year used 15w40 truck oil. I bought an extra 5l and used ...

Re: oil change questions

Thinking aloud I guess the quality of the oil has to be factored in to the equation too. Does anyone have any experience in getting their oil tested/analysed? Firstly it would tell me if I needed to change it, info I could use as a precedent in the future, also give me a heads up on the overall cond...

oil change questions

So its that time of year when engine oil needs changing, I'm told primarily as the additives in last year oil will have broken down and any corrosive protection qualities will have demised. I have a JH2E 38hp Yanmar engine and the literature states that the oil should be changed every 150 hours and ...

Re: onboard battery charger

Hi Philip, just had a response from the manufacturer and they commented that the unit is good for a bank of between 200-300Ah. as we're hoping to avoid marinas I think we need to look at our set up. we have a 55A alternator on the engine and the 25A on the battery charger. until this week we had a b...

onboard battery charger

Hi, further to a thread I recently posted regarding my house battery bank I'm looking at replacing the batteries as they're dead!! putting the charging carried out by the engine for a moment (there'll be more questions on the alternator shortly), what size/capacity battery charger (powered by an aux...

Re: Which deep cycle battery?

Hi Wolfgang, looks like a tidy set up! not sure why the previous owner/s set ours up in the way they did? having spent some time reading up on the battery situation I think I may look at gel or AGM's. but having read up I now have more questions about other aspects of the charging elements....sigh!
