Re: 1974 Centaur shaft diameter?
Not I, but I do have the old shaft somewhere (1975, hull/sail no 1361) removed when the engine and all the stern gear was changed. I coud measure it if you want but I think it's at home (in Liverpool - and I'm in the boat in Falmouth!).

Re: a breakdown in communications
Hmmmmm. A lucky escape! And possibly a lesson learned all round.
I wonder if now is the time to point out that the genoa can be unfurled on any point of sailing........

Re: The Wild West
Brixham. Wobbly pontoon off the YC where we had some excellent mussels last night. At Weymouth I was joined by a young crew member called Nick, who was excellent. Rounding Portland Bill was far easier than expected, in very gentle conditions, and Lyme Regis was very crowded - but I did make some mon...

Newport Rally 16th June
Hi all
Does anyone have any good photos to share? I'd particularly like one of Nicky's boat, or the other one, nose-down at an alarming angle!
Big thanks to Nicky for organising it!

Re: Centaur Mast compression loads and lower chainplates
The location of that chainplate above the window was a rare design fault, corrected soon after your boat was built by putting the shroud plate forward of the window. Mine was built the following year and has this. I've seen some Centaurs with a metal (presumably stainless steel) strap vertically dow...

Re: Lazy Jack Lines
My Centaur has lazyjacks made up from small diameter cordage (?4mm) with bowline loops at all the strategic points, Since they rarely need adjusting, it seems to work well.

Rule 2 - there's no such thing as a silly question. We were all there once.

Re: Seized seacock solution
A sizeable splash of oil into the heads was recommended to me as a good way of lubricating the heads pump itself. Olive oil seems a bit extravagant to me (unless you're in the Med, I suppose) though; bog standard (!) vegetable oil will do.

Re: Slatted cockpit seats
I've just renovated the teak slats on my lazarette lid and oiled them with about four coats of teak oil. Having been old, tired and grey, they now look like new
I wonder if the same process would work for me!

Re: The Wild West
I shall (all being well) be back home at the start of August, but back at the boat in Southampton by 9th, for at least a couple of weeks. Happy to meet then, somewhere in the Solent. Where are you going to keep her?
In the meantime, I still have vacancies in the first two weeks of July.

Most (all?) of mine is bright copper; some of the new stuff is tinned. And it all works (touches the table). At the moment.

Re: Sorting out my wiring
I agree about the limited usefulness of the Book for our needs! The 12-Volt Bible comes highly recommended but I haven't got a copy - yet. Don't know about running all the new stuff before removing the old - I suppose it depends whether you want to use the same cable runs. All the 'background' wirin...

Re: Out with the old in with the new
I've seen some of these (or something of the type) at the Boat Show and did wonder about them. I've never liked the idea of the dry powder ones for the reasons you give above, yet I have four on board - because they're the usual ones, and they're also relatively cheap. Has anyone used the new ones i...
