Not I, but I do have the old shaft somewhere (1975, hull/sail no 1361) removed when the engine and all the stern gear was changed. I coud measure it if you want but I think it's at home (in Liverpool - and I'm in the boat in Falmouth!).

Hmmmmm. A lucky escape! And possibly a lesson learned all round.

The location of that chainplate above the window was a rare design fault, corrected soon after your boat was built by putting the shroud plate forward of the window. Mine was built the following year and has this. I've seen some Centaurs with a metal (presumably stainless steel) strap vertically dow...

My Centaur has lazyjacks made up from small diameter cordage (?4mm) with bowline loops at all the strategic points, Since they rarely need adjusting, it seems to work well.

A sizeable splash of oil into the heads was recommended to me as a good way of lubricating the heads pump itself. Olive oil seems a bit extravagant to me (unless you're in the Med, I suppose) though; bog standard (!) vegetable oil will do.

I've just renovated the teak slats on my lazarette lid and oiled them with about four coats of teak oil. Having been old, tired and grey, they now look like new

I wonder if the same process would work for me!

I shall (all being well) be back home at the start of August, but back at the boat in Southampton by 9th, for at least a couple of weeks. Happy to meet then, somewhere in the Solent. Where are you going to keep her?

I agree about the limited usefulness of the Book for our needs! The 12-Volt Bible comes highly recommended but I haven't got a copy - yet. Don't know about running all the new stuff before removing the old - I suppose it depends whether you want to use the same cable runs. All the 'background' wirin...
