Re: Recommissioning a Centaur, Portsmouth Area

Yes good point regarding resale - and although our intention is not to upsize (having effectively downsized albeit with a 15 yr gap) there is always the possibility that we may look to sell in the long term. However couple of things influencing our decision - the previous owner had started the sandi...

Re: Recommissioning a Centaur, Portsmouth Area

I have to ask why you are going to paint the topsides? If they are not painted at the moment, I would advise against painting as gel coat cn easily be brought back to life with a little effort and minimal cost - probably less than the paint will cost. We are going down the same route after jet wash...

Re: Anybody know what this is?

Thanks for pics - ours definitley doesn't have two plates from bottom of drum attaching either side of bow roller but clear that something has sheared off drum. Would there be enough space between plates for turnbuckle to attach forestay to bow roller do you think? There is no other other way of att...

Re: Anybody know what this is?

Thanks for all the feedback. Did wonder about shackle arrangement but wouldn't be too happy with that either! Without rigging the boat it's difficult to tell how the system works but it looks like the drum has had something that has sheared off the base - there is a D shaped ring still attached/weld...

Re: Reefing the Main on early Westerly's (replace the "Claw"

Thanks v much for very helpful responses especially photographs which explain things so much better. Managed to get to the boat today and there is definitely no slot in mast for handle but on the gooseneck there appears to be slot for a winch handle - have actually managed to find an image on the ne...

Re: Anybody know what this is?

There are only the three bolt holes on both sides of bow roller as would expect - sorry don't have suitable photo but could take one tomorrow. The two flanges would be very tight fit either side of bolt hole on bow roller where would expect forestay to be attached - other end of widget too wide to f...

Re: Reefing the Main on early Westerly's (replace the "Claw"

Thanks very much for responses - we have a friend who is a blacksmith so going to have a go at bending claw back into alignment..failing that might be looking for cheap replacement ndt228 if offer is still there.. Will probably have a go at reefing with the claw as we aren't likely to get many weeks...

Re: Anybody know what this is?

Thanks for feedback - thought that might be what it was for but checked again today when on boat and wouldn't attach to Norseman on forestay or bow roller as dimensions wrong. There is a bolt at end of bow roller which seems a little strange - only purpose I can guess at is to keep anchor chain in p...

Anybody know what this is?

New parents of Centaur which has been completely stripped and trying to figure out where it all goes...(apologies if incorrectly posted) Ok running the risk of looking fairly dim but could anyone give some guidance on how the widget attached to the end of the roller reefing line might be related to ...

Re: Reefing the Main on early Westerly's (replace the "Claw"

Posting this on an old thread so hoping it's in the right place - apologies if not.. We are the new proud parents of a '72 Centaur which has been completely stripped and we've given ourselves 5 months and a v limited budget to get her back on the water. A lot of the time is spent trying to figure ou...

Re: Centaur Headlining

Thanks for replies... Hawke House is a good idea .. Have already been in contact with them about the adhesives supplied with headlining (which previous owner had purchased but never installed) and they have been v helpful ... Interesting that aquaplane's headlining fitted pre-post...might try Trafal...

Re: Centaur Headlining

Thanks v much for helpful replies - I should add that we are a v long way off replacing headlining but helps to know how to approach painting heads/wet locker/ Q berth. One last question..compression post is in place and appears to have had headlining attached before post bolted to the top of cabin ...

Centaur Headlining

We are the new proud parents of a Centaur - A layout - which has been pretty much stripped back to bare minimum and as a result a lot of head scratching going on. Loads of questions to come so apologies if they are posted incorrectly. First off all headlining has been stripped away, previous owner h...
