Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.
Indeed Khiran, I too am very pleased to have Eberspacher and even at this time of the year its lovely to wake up in the morning and have a cosy warm boat. They are such temperamental things these diesel heaters , I try and fire it up at least once every 10 days for a cycle to keep it working. I thin...

Re: westerly oceanlord- storm sail
I'd suggest you measure the available luff length and contact Roger Lees in Crusader Sails, he will give you a recommended size.

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.
Just back from a lovely sail, only did 12 miles in about 4 hours, wind never got above about 8 knots, still it was gloriously sunny and warm. Oh the feel good factor, especially as tomorrows forecast is not looking too good.

Re: Raw Water Strainer
I would replace the pipework as you plan . You mention a mixture of various types etc and as its of uncertain age it can get brittle . Personally I prefer the strainer above the waterline of its one of the plastic Vetus types with the mesh insert, as you can safely open it without closing the sea co...

Excellent Tim,well done. It suddenly makes all the hard work over the winter worthwhile.Miranda wrote:Well we are finally back afloat for the season and what a great start, had a whole family of dolphins follow us for about 40 mins whilst sailing back to Barmouth.![]()

Re: Hull and deck
I was speaking to the Selden agents down in our yard last week about rig tension. They basically said its impossible to overtighten a rig as the bottlescrews are not capable of doing damage. On our Tempest the chainplates are in the middle of the side decks attached to bonded transverse plywood webs...

Re: Which non slip deck paint?
Kiwigrip is very expensive. Following on from a deck paint test I read some time back, they mentioned Sandtex exterior masonry paint. Well, I used Fleetwood masonry paint which costs a fraction of the price of yacht deck paint, its only been applied since November but I have no reason to believe if ...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.
Went sailing............. This was taken at about 7pm last night, we were away for the first overnight of the year and the first sleep on the new boat. Thank goodness for the Eberspacher, ice on the deck this morning at 7am when we had to slip the lines to catch the tide home. http://img909.imagesha...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.
Went sailing :D Absolutely awesome, first sail of our Tempest after 6 months of ownership and 6 months of really hard work and too much expenditure...............but it was absolutely worth it. A cold southeasterly, with wind between 12 and 20 knots, perfect for a shakedown. Out for three hours, tes...

Re: Epoxy removal
We had the bottom soda blasted this winter which is absolutely non damaging and leaves the gelcoat looking as if it has been sanded with 60 grit sandpaper.

Re: Renovations to Fulmar Concerto
The upholster has looked at the job and thinks the foam and all labour will be about £600, all I have to do now is decide on what fabric I want and order that. I have been recommended to have vinyl against the plywood bases as it stops the foam absorbing water rather than a mesh back, anyone like ...

Re: New Sails for Oceanquest
Just a few thoughts from me. The sails on the boat are 2010 Kemp and are well made from good quality cloth, nice shape and I am more than happy with them. I have bought several sails over the years from Crusader and never had any issues with cut, workmanship or material and always found them great t...

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.
Launched last Wednesday
Went down yesterday to bend on sails which was not a great idea with 45 knot gusts, so drank tea and ate cream eclairs instead
Might get sails sorted today.

Re: What have you done to your Westerly today.
Brought down and fitted the newly re upholstered cushions, what a transformation. It utterly changes a boat from a winter shell to a cosy nest at the drop of a hat :D Also got the engine fired up, impellor changed, anode changed, coolant changed and finally tested the Beta conversion kit that change...
