Re: Slab reefing
My Lazy jacks are slightly different to Roger's. The adjustment is all on the long lines. They go round blocks at the top and come down to cleats on the mast. As can be seen the height up the mast isn't critical, mine are considerably lower than Concerto's. They do in fact run down in the mast, but ...

Re: wind instruments
I'm afraid it does sound as though it is the end. Especially if the buttons are not working. There is an issue with the old ST50 wind instrument not holding its calibration. I found on my one I could recalibrate it and it would work fine until the power was switched off. Next time it would be about ...

Re: Instruments refusing to talk to each other
The log really needs an uninterrupted flow of water so more likely offset from the keel. If it's removable it should have a large hand nut on top, so the centre can be pulled upwards and replaced with a plug. The blanking plug will also have a matching hand nut to hold it in place.

Re: Instruments refusing to talk to each other
Well done sorting out the GPS issues. You may find the log is just full of crud. Most transducers can be removed whilst afloat if you have the blanking plug to stem the flow of water while you clean the paddle wheel. I fitted a new Raymarine ST60+ log a few years ago and the Airmar transducer fittin...

Re: Sailing with another owner to the E Coast WOA 50th
Sounds like you had a good weekend. I was thinking about going, but have been doing some major redecorating at home. I still had a few things to sort out before a new carpet and furniture arrives. It's interesting what you said about the Swin Spitway, 50m further East than the buoys is the recognise...

Re: Single handed sailing
On the rare occasions I visit a marina I rig a line through the centre cleat on my Fulmar. I bring the line back to the cockpit via the spinnaker blocks and on to the coach roof sheet winches. The out board end of the line has a large snap shackle that clips to my boat hook. I come in very slowly in...

Re: Masthead sheaves
I guess my roller cars getting stiff due to crud in them is much the same as you had in the sheaves, just a different place. Fortunately for me, mine were easier to get to and clean. Now I am wishing I had taken some silicon spray with me when I went up the mast to repair my Tri Colour and Anchor li...

Re: Masthead sheaves
I'd be surprised if it's the mast sheaves are causing a massive amount of friction, I would think it's more likely the mast sliders. You could check the halyard without the sail attached. Attach another line to the halyard and keep a load on the line whilst hoisting the halyard. You should be able t...

Try searching for 'toggle switch' on eBay. You should find what you need there.

Re: leaking stern gland
You may be able to tighten up the stern gland. There is packing material inside that probably needs replacing, but worth trying to adjust the gland. You should find a lock nut that needs to be undone first and then if there is any adjustment left you should be able to turn the end of the gland. You ...

Re: Navigators & General WOA scheme
I had previously been insured with N&G through a broker until about 18 months ago when the broker told me they were changing the policy to "various underwriters at Lloyds." They wanted an additional £10 or so for the pleasure. The new policy did not allow singlehanded after dark which ...

Re: Cradle for GK29 - family cruiser version
Can't help you with dimensions, but have you seen these boat stands? http://boatgeardirect.co.uk/boat-stands A fellow club member made his own copies for a Benetau. It's a much shorter stub keel with lifting plate, but the stands are really stable when chained together. He pegs his down for extra se...

Re: News about plans for new WOA web site and discussion group
I have been assisting with the testing too, for the last couple of months. I must say Nigel Birch has done a massive amount of work and produced an excellent website. The new forum or Comunity is completely different, with an appearance more like Facebook, but is hosted entirely on the website, so r...

Re: Navigators & General WOA scheme
I have just checked my current policy and there is no mention of Endorsement 43. The policy clearly gives the location of my mooring as Lower Halstow Yacht Club, where all moorings are swinging. I wonder how they could put such an endorsement with a specified mooring location. When I took out the po...

Re: Water collecting on cockpit seats
Have you filled the fuel tank and water tank? I assume they are under the cockpit like most westerly's. There will be a big difference in weight between a full and empty tank.
