Re: Centaur pulling the engine
Yes, if you have one it will be on the front of the valve cover. On mine when it is horizontal, pointing to port, that is the running position, vertically one exhaust valve is working and at 110 deg no compression from memory. Its easy enough to see by turning the engine over and seeing if you have ...

Re: Centaur pulling the engine
I wouldn't use an impact gun on the crank pulley bolt as it may overtighten it and even snap it. I have started my 2002 using a speed brace with an inline ratchet and socket on the bolt . The inline ratchet stops damage to your wrist/hand if it back fires. Open the valve lifters then crank as fast a...

Re: Centaur pulling the engine
When I wanted a new ring gear for my Penta 2002 engine it also was not available from Volvo marine but it was the same as a Volvo car. I can't remember the exact model but the part number was 6842185. It had 142 teeth, the outer diameter was approx 303 mm, inner dia 273mm, thickness 9.1mm, pitch abo...

Re: Konsort Opening Port - Seals
When looking for seals for my Gebo opening portlights, Ocean Chandlery at Thornham marina had them in stock. A sample of the old one is essential as there are a number of different cross sections. They were very helpful.

Re: Drying out on a Tempest 31
We spend a lot of time on board when dried out often doing maintenance tasks on our mooring. I have even been up the mast when aground and she is completely stable. Of course one has to know that the sea bed is reasonably level and you are not coming down on the side of a gulley but even so I am ama...

Re: Drying out on a Tempest 31
My Tempest bilge keeler has spent most of her life on a drying mooring and has not had a problem apart from just recent years when much of the mud she sits on has be washed away leaving a slightly stoney bottom. This has caused a few small chips to the very tip of the rudder so this winter I have ha...

Re: Navigators & General WOA scheme
On renewing my policy with N&G last year I was sent the Yacht and Motorboat Policy Document 2016 in which on page 28 'Exclusions which apply to the whole of this policy' it states in paragraph 9 that “ the vessel being stranded, sunk, swamped or breaking adrift whilst unattended except on a reco...

Re: Replacement bow roller sleeves
I also needed a bow roller this size but found one close to it at Seascrew. It measured 33 wide, 40mm dia and 8.5mm dia bolt hole which I drilled out to 10mm. It has worked fine.

Yes, it is behind the bulkhead in the port cabin. The upper part of it is removable by taking the caps of 4 buttons which cover the retaining screws.

On my Tempest I have the main tank of 112 litres just under the filler neck inside the sugar scoop. The second of 50 litres is under the centre of the aft starboard berth.

Re: Hull stain removal - if y10 doesn't work what next?
I have been using Wickes brick and mortar cleaner for the past 6 years and found it does the trick. Wearing Nitrile gloves I just put a little on a piece of rag rub it over the brown stain and leave for 5-10 mins. I then go over it again with the rag and some more cleaner and finally rinse it off. B...

Re: Oceanranger calorifier pressure relief valve
I had the same thing on my Tempest and concluded that it was worth keeping the pressure relief valve for safety reasons. I ran a length of pipe from it and to a small skin fitting just below the rubbing strake. I now have a nice dry bilge.

Re: Replacement IYE mainsheet traveller wheels for 'C' secti
I replaced the IYE traveller wheels on my Tempest some years ago with a kit from Barton part no PLB 64906.
I seem to remember the wheels were 28X12x6
Worth contacting them
