Re: Cutlass bearing replacement
Cutless bearings are available in many sizes. The types used in Westerlys are usually pretty standard and widely available. You need to measure shaft diameter, bearing length, and bearing outside diameter. You should just be able to see the outside diameter of the bearing (its bronze jacket) if you ...

Re: New Owner Questions - How To Replace Fuse In Switchboard
When a circuit trips, the button pops out. To reset, just push the button it back in. If that doesnt work, or the button hasnt popped out, the problem may be elsewhere.

Re: Help! Where is the Oceanlord fuse box ?
Which engine? 2000T series VP engines have a main engine fuse box (clear plastic) on the engine loom at the top of the engine. Betas and Perkins also have an in-loom breaker fuse. A multimeter will show if 12V is arriving at the solenoid.

Re: Oceanlord/Sealord Anchor
Hi,
A minor point I suppose, there's little difference between a Sealord/Oceanlord's bow and those of the Oceanranger, Consort, Oceanquest etc so the anchor suitability question is really applicable to most Dubois 35'+ designs.

Re: Oceanlord 41' Genoa sheet length
For an aft cockpit boat, the rule of thumb for fore sheets is the length of the boat (if you think about it, a couple of turns around winches and cleats then all the way to the bow and up to the clew of the furled genoa with a couple of turns around that too). For the Oceanlord you might get away wi...

Re: Buying a boat 3rd hand
Unless its a very small boat (dinghy etc), all boats are (or are meant to be) sold with a formal 'Bill of Sale'. This requires signatures and IDs from both parties in the presence of independent witnesses (also with Ids, sigs etc). This is a requirement for a number of things like VAT status, proof ...

Re: scum in primary filter bowl
I'm surprised the engine ran at all! was the liquid in the bottom of the bowl good quality clean diesel, or was it discoloured water? It looks to me like a frothy interface between heavier dirty water below and lighter diesel above (within the cartridge). The froth could be an aerobic reaction betwe...

Re: U shaped chain plates
The U-bolts are not glassed into the deck, but t hey are heavily sealed in. Just undo the nuts below (the nuts are locked against each other so you have to hold the upper nut while you loosen the lower one first). You will need a crowbar or strong piece of pipe and some wooden blocks to act as a hin...

Re: Sealord water tank switching
The tanks usually both fill from the same filler. There is a valve on the hose outlet of each tank. There should be a similar valve to the one you found underneath the floorboards, about the same distance on the other side of the center line. These valves can be operated to decide which tank you wan...

Front support bracket VP 2000 series
Does anyone have, or know where there is, one of those odd curved steel girder beams that pass underneath and between the front mountings of the Volvo Penta 2000 series engine. A friend has bent his one. Thank you.

Re: U shaped chain plates
The U-bolts have 2 legs with nuts on the end of each leg. Usually EACH leg is bolted to a metal chainplate or bracket below decks, and these often run down either side of a bulkhead, or other piece of joinery below. So when you see a single nut and chainplate, you will usually find the other leg is ...

Re: U shaped chain plates
Good evening. I'm a yacht surveyor, and wrote that article in the BMSE forum, re U-bolt type shroud attachments and chainplates! I'm afraid you will have to bite the bullet on these as a matter of priority. Getting at them, and getting them out is a right 'P.I.T.A' but you will just have to steadily...

Re: Rudder straightening
Agree all the foregoing. One word of advice: Dont be persuaded to try cold or even warm straightening. It doesnt work. The resulting work-hardening causes very rapid failure once under stress. You may find a fitter/turner workshop to make a new shaft, but you will have to split out the old shaft and...

Re: Konsort scraping hull reveals bright green surface??
Just a brief reminder. Agree the green is probably gelshield and the numbers are moisture readings. Someone had a go at drying the boat out, taking readings as they went. When they thought it was dry enough they applied epoxy. Putting full epoxy coats on will cost a bit and achieve nothing if the hu...
